(1 Customer Review)
Whimsical folkie Christine Lavin--known as much for her screwy sense of humor as for her lovely music--asked several fellow performers to fork over songs about their favorite delicacies. She recorded herself singing with each contributor on ... Full Descriptionhis or her song, and also got them to send her recipes, collected in the CD's 96-page "cookbooklet." The results are tasty, with contributions from such luminaries as Pete Seeger, the late Dave van Ronk, Doc Watson, and actor Jeff Daniels. The songs range from the literal to the transcendent, with lots of food-as-sex double-entendre in between. One Meatball album
$11.99 One of the wittiest and most insightful contemporary singer-songwriters, Christine Lavin, sets aside her customary focus on interpersonal relationships in the bewildering modern era to create a characteristic mixture of irreverent and genuine winter holiday songs. Discovering that she "just couldn't find a good Christmas/Kwanzaa/Solstice/Chanukah/ Ramadan/Boxing Day album," she rounded up seven other vocalists, a sackful of humorous, offbeat and sometimes moving seasonal songs, a couple of original stories, and created this lighthearted a cappella alternative to the usual cloying Christmas-season songbook. Inspired by the vocal techniques of Sol "Roundman" Weber," Christine enlisted singer-songwriter Julie ("From a Distance") Gold, Emily Bindinger and Margaret Dorn from The Accidentals, the harmony octet that won the 2002 National A Cappella Competition, Ervin Drake (author ...

One Meatball music CDs
$9.85 Chuck Flores in the Feb. addition of “BUDDY” the original Texas music magazine reviewed “ROUGH SAX.” His review follows. With his warm soothing tone and his lyrical phrasing, Christopher Brown’s sax harkens back to an earlier age, when lounges were dark, smoky, sultry and cool. On the Metrosong CD. ROUGH SAX, producer/arranger Chip Evens allows Brown’s artistry to come through. Whether it’s the aptly named “Space Jam” with its moody motifs or some of the more exotic grooves like “Bay of Pigs,” “Tango in F” of the reggae tinged “Angry Bob.” The arrangements on these 13 instrumentals are deliberately stark: the only other musicians featured are Evans on piano and guitar and Mike McCraw on drums, and even then their presence is very limited. The spare production only accentuates the intimacy of Brown’s sax. And It’s that smooth, seductive sax that cajoles, that entices and takes the lucky listener to a wide-open ride that recalls the musical legends like ...
