| | Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man Soundtrack CD (4 Customer Reviews)
Leonard Cohen is one of the finest singer-songwriters of the past half century, and the 2006 documentary I'M YOUR MAN pays tribute to his genius. The soundtrack to the film is a collection of live performances taken from Hal Willner's concert ... Full Descriptionseries "Came So Far for Beauty: An Evening of Leonard Cohen Songs." Among those involved in the events were Rufus and Martha Wainwright, the McGarrigles, Teddy Thompson, Jarvis Cocker, and Cohen's heir apparent, Nick Cave. While none of the versions can compete with Cohen's brilliantly evocative originals, the interpretations are done so lovingly and with such admiration and zest (Cave's demonically sleazy riff on "I'm Your Man" is particularly inspired), the disc works nicely as a fitting tribute to Cohen and an apt companion piece to the film.

Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man Soundtrack album
$12.15 WORLD WITHOUT TEARS was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. "Righteously" was nominated for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
Though it's ultimately a less balladic, more stylistically varied album than its dreamy predecessor ESSENCE, WORLD WITHOUT TEARS starts out with a slow-burning, reverb-drenched ballad, but then takes a sharp turn into sensual lyricism, pounding drums, and churning guitar on "Righteously." For some time, the dominant topic of Lucinda Williams albums has been the edgy appeal of dangerous, often doomed men, and true to form there are plenty of those on WORLD WITHOUT TEARS. ...

Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man Soundtrack CD music
$13.05 In 1964, when the Beatles where still singing "I Want to Hold Your Hand," Bob Dylan was quietly making history at New York's Philharmonic Hall (now Avery Fisher Hall). ANOTHER SIDE OF BOB DYLAN had recently been released, but even the flights of fancy on "Spanish Harlem Incident" and "To Ramona" (both performed here), while unprecedented, couldn't have prepared the audience for the Big Bang of songwriting represented by the still-unrecorded "Gates of Eden" and "It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)." In a voice full of youthful vitality ...

| | Johnny Cash American V: A Hundred Highways CD (2006)
Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man Soundtrack album
$12.05 Johnny Cash's final album, AMERICAN V: A HUNDRED HIGHWAYS, is a moving and fitting swan song for the legendary performer. Like Cash's other recordings with producer Rick Rubin, AMERICAN V is quiet, intense, and minimal; it creates a thrilling intimacy by keeping the focus on Cash's aging voice and increasingly soulful, nuanced phrasing.

Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man Soundtrack CD music
$10.09 Leonard Cohen manages to garner fans from the unlikeliest of places despite his distinctly un-rock-&-roll appearance and a set of songs that veer closer to poetry than to their uneasy bedfellows in the pantheon of popular music. But viewers looking for an in-depth analysis of the man behind some of the most deeply introspective music ever recorded should look elsewhere: LEONARD COHEN: I'M YOUR MAN contains precious little insight from Cohen himself. Instead, director Lian Lunson has pieced together a warm tribute to the Canadian singer, drawing on the words of his many celebrity fans while also sharing generous amounts of footage ...
