While none of the versions can compete with Cohen's brilliantly evocative originals, the interpretations are done so lovingly and with such admiration and zest (Cave's demonically sleazy riff on "I'm Your Man" is particularly inspired), the disc works nicely as a fitting tribute to Cohen and an apt companion piece to the film.

The soundtrack to Martin Scorcese's two-part PBS documentary on Bob Dylan, NO DIRECTION HOME is a two-disc affair consisting almost entirely of previously unreleased material.
