Once again Derek (collaborating with Mike Tichy) has written 9 intensely prog tunes guaranteed to keep any musician busy annotating. Having been spoiled with a pre-release copy direct from Derek I've had the pleasure of listening to this over and over again, focusing on different instrumentations and phrasings. Derek shines as the helmsman - allowing his fellow superstars Petrucci, Malmsteen and Wylde to "air it out"....no mistaking this is a shredfest. Strap in and enjoy the ride! This is not your Grandmother's blend of rock and smoke....Blood of the Snake lvies up to its lofty position on the Metal sales charts.....

 Oh Momma!
This is easily Derek's BEST recording ever! Right from the start, the CD mix and mastering will melt your speakers, headphones and ears! What I really enjoy is that Derek shares the spotlight with his fellow musicians in writing and performance, thus making this a very diverse project! My personnel highlights was enjoying the BLAZING drumming of Brian Tichy and Simon Philips! Also, Zakk Wylde's 'Ozzy Like' vocals and very heavy metal guitar licks and solo's balance out the jazz/rock compositions. I wish Dereck would solo more with a Hammond! Man! He SMOKES on it! The only thing I didn't enjoy, and I know I'll get some 'heat' on this, is that I'm getting so tired of Yngwie's 'show boating' ego and his tiresome, repetitive guitar solos drowned in reverb and delay! Otherwise, A GREAT CD Dereck! Bravo!

 so much shredding so little substance
how much shredding can a bear bear? Star-studded line-up on a lame project. At least they got paid for it
