| | Butch Walker I Liked It Better When You Had No Heart CD (2010)
Vox In Excelso music CDs
$11.80 The day that Butch Walker runs out of melodies will be a dark day indeed, but he shows little sign of decline on his fifth solo effort. Like Sycamore Meadows, this album finds the 40-year-old Walker in a contemplative, autobiographical mood, referencing everything from his hair metal past to his Los Angeles home. It's ostensibly a breakup record, too, with a rather despondent title and another sad, Southern-styled ballad, "Don't You Think Someone Should Take You Home," that sounds like the companion piece to 2008's "Here Comes The." If Walker is heartbroken, though, he doesn't show it during some of the album's best songs, from the roots rocker "Trash Day" to the shuffling "Temporary Title." Bad feelings also don't prevent him from ornamenting the album with some of his best production to date. A sweeping, Phil Spector-styled string section opens "Pretty Melody," swells of vocal harmony pop up throughout "Stripped Down Version," and violins dart ...

How does one represent the career of one of the most distinctive, powerful singer/songwriters of the 20th century in the space of a single CD? By keeping it simple and sticking to the milestones. That's exactly what GREATEST HITS accomplishes, by presenting 16 of Neil Young's most beloved compositions. The gritty, fuzz-guitar fury of Young's work with Crazy Horse ("Cinnamon Girl," "Hey Hey, My My [Into the Black]") brushes up against the acoustic-based, country-tinged "Old Man" and "Only Love Can Break Your Heart," as well as haunting, soul-baring ballads such as "The Needle and the Damage Done." Few would deny that the 1970s were Young's richest decade, and this collection strongly focuses on those years, skipping most of Young's genre-hopping '80s albums and grandfather-of-grunge '90s recordings, ...
| | Scorpions Love At First Sting CD (1984)
Vox In Excelso CD music
$6.49 Although the Scorpions had already achieved fame after 1982's Blackout, Love at First Sting brought them their biggest single of the decade, the slick anthem "Rock You Like a Hurricane," with some greatly underrated songs to back it up. The album opens with the hair-raising "Bad Boys Running Wild" and continues with songs such as the memorable "Big City Nights" and the half-ballad, half-powerhouse rocker "Coming Home." The record also contains what just may be the ...
| | Andy Kim Baby I Love You: Greatest Hits CDs (1999) Import
Vox In Excelso music CDs
$10.49 BABY I LOVE YOU is a best-of collection of tracks recorded by Canadian pop singer Andy Kim.
Andy Kim had many of his greatest songs and successes behind the scenes as a songwriter for such effervescent pop groups as the Monkees. He did have a solo career, however, that peaked with the terrific single "Rock Me Gently," a smash hit at the time and a staple of '70s compilations ever since. Of course, that's on Baby I Love You: Greatest Hits, which also includes smaller singles like the title track and "Shoot 'Em Up, Baby," along with oldies covers ("Be My Baby," "Oh Pretty Woman") and some fun originals by ...
