In many ways Green Day's first "proper" album--the debut 1039/SMOOTHED OUT SLAPPY HOURS was stitched together from multiple sessions and didn't feature the definitive lineup with drummer Tre Cool--KERPLUNK is an early-1990s milestone. One listen to this album makes it clear why Green Day, rather than any of their Bay Area peers, were the band that won the major-label lottery; they were simply better than the vast majority of their contemporaries. This record's version of "Welcome to Paradise," while rougher than the eventual hit single from 1994's DOOKIE, is only one of several clearly brilliant pop songs delivered with an approach that's part Buzzcocks, part Go-Go's, mixing sharply drawn neuroses and sweet pop hooks. "Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?" and the downright sweet "2000 Light Years Away," an unabashed love song to the woman who singer Billie Joe Armstrong would soon marry, are just as good. This edition also adds the four-song SWEET CHILDREN EP, which includes a brash cover of the Who's "My Generation."

The group's second full length album was released on Lookout Records before their fortuitous move to Warner Brothers. This is where the trio solidified with the addition of Tre Cool on drums who fit like a glove with Mike Drint's bass lines to form one tight rhythm section. They provided the instrumental backing to Billie Joe Armstrong's energetic guitar licks and searing songs that firmly esconced the group at the forefront of a neo-punk movement of the early 1990's. Includes "2000 Light Years Away", "Christie Road" and the outstanding "Welcome To Paradise".

Recorded at Art Of Ears Studio, San Francisco, California in May and September 1991.

The name of this one is " Kerplunk". My thoughts, Kerplunk right in the toilet. I used to listen to this one alot when I was 18, but if I were to listen to it now, I'd probly turn it off, cuz they only can play like, what, three chords. But, I do recommend it to the teens growing up in todays world, it just might help you out, in some sort of freakish way

This is Green Day's second album. As a follow-up to their first, it's great. The songs I like a lot on this album are the original Welcome To Paradise, Christie Road, One Of My Lies, Android, and the Who over My Generation.

this cd is great and it deserves more credit than it gets. Christie road is the greatest song ever next to 80.Awesome.
