The Irish singer songwriter Fionn Regan's debut album is a slow-burning collection of deeply personal songs that initially sound fragile, but whose imagery has a steely, almost surgical precision. Armed with only a voice and acoustic guitar on most tracks, Regan creates an intimate world paradoxically open to all, with songs like "Put a Penny in the Slot" describing a love story's failing trajectory, and "Blackwater Child," which has a simple, subtly gorgeous arrangement, summoning shades of Nick Drake, Donovan, and the ancient songs of their countless anonymous forebears.

The beguiling debut album from this extraordinarily talented young artist, who is perhaps destined to be regarded as one of the most unique voices of his generation.Rolling Stone (p.84) - "[A]s loud as a heartbeat in an empty room, reverberating with the firm, fluid confrontation of his bright-whisper vocals..."

5 stars Driven from the inside map of the heart
Fionn Regan is one of the most driven from the inside of the map of the heart performers one ever gets a chance to see in their lifetime. He is someone with an internal and fully operating vision of what and how and who and why and what he is delivering, sending out into the world for us to hear. A rhythmic, soulful troubadour, creative beyond and ancient at the same time. One of those Cds that will melt in your heart, etched on a page to remember. People will be hearing and loving this lad for generations to come. A bright and shiny star to guide the way. Send out the word on this one and say I heard him when. You will be glad you did. See him live if you can. The recorded songs burst forth with the fullness of Fionn's gift one hundred fold to be in a room with him on the stage. He sends forth commitment of a true life being lived with purpose. And I thank him for that. And you just may too.

5 stars An extraordinary debut!
Fionn Regan is the single most important new talent to emerge since Ryan Adams. This album is not to be missed. Literate, and wise beyond his years, he has often been compared to the likes of Nick Drake and Elliot Smith. He beats them both at their own game.

John Hammond, Jr Southern Fried CD  (1969)

End Of History album
CD $14.29  4 stars Audio Samples
Southern Fried differed little from other early Hammond albums in its repertoire, consisting entirely of covers of blues and R&B songs. As usual, the Chicago sound came in for especially heavy tribute, with versions of songs by Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, and Chuck Berry, as well as a pass at "Mystery Train," though more vocal-oriented R&B got a nod with Chuck Willis' "It's Too Late" and some of the other tunes. Where this might have a leg up on some other early Hammond efforts -- and a leg up on blues cover albums in general -- is in the stellar band, featuring Muscle Shoals stalwarts like Eddie Hinton and Roger Hawkins. Allman Brothers fans, too, will want to keep an eye out for it as it features Duane Allman playing fine lead guitar on four tracks; certainly his peeling slide guitar solo on "Shake for Me" rates among his best work as a session man. Original the album isn't it, yet though Hammond isn't a great vocalist or interpreter, these are indeed very solid and joyful blues-rock versions of classic ...

This release signals in the then 33-year old, Norwegian pianist Tord Gustavsen's debut outing for the ECM Records label. His fellow compatriots, bassist Harald Johnsen and drummer Jarle Vespestad, round out this jazz piano trio offering. Fundamentally speaking, the group seemingly works its palate into that classic "ECM Records" aesthetic, comprising echo-laden sonic characteristics ...

Guess Who Rockin' CD  (1972) Bonus Tracks

End Of History music CDs
CD $11.18  SALE 5 stars Top 100 Audio Samples
Rockin' is Greg Leskiw's last of three albums with the Guess Who; he came onboard with Kurt Winter for Share the Land and recorded So Long, Bannatyne as well, the two men slipping into the big shoes of Randy Bachman. This finds Burton Cummings in a definite '50s mode, "Running Bear" and "Nashville Sneakers" being throwbacks to another time. When "Herbert's a Loser" kicks, one can't help but feel it's been enough already, "Herbert's a Loser" being the one tune composed by the Winter/Leskiw guitar team. The album predominantly features the songwriting of Cummings, though Kurt Winter does lend a generous hand. As an artistic statement it's all very interesting, but for a band whose bread and butter was the Top 40, this stuff tempts fate a bit too much. Jerry Lee Lewis released an album with the same title the same year, 1972. Lots of artists released albums titled Rockin', in fact: Frankie Laine back in 1957 and the Drifters with Rockin' & Driftin' in 1964, among many, many others. The nostalgia aside, "Heartbroken Bopper" is a true original and an almost-hit single. If you think ...

I spent a lot of time on this record. We tracked most of the drums and bass over a weekend in June of 2008 and I have been piecing it together since.

As I was finishing mixing the record I heard an intriguing story about ...
