| | Marty Stuart Honky Tonkin's What I Do Best CD (1996)
Best Of Country & Line Dancing Vol. 1-Best Of Country & Line Dancing songs
$6.29 Marty Stuart And The Rock & Roll Cowboys: Marty Stuart (vocals, acoustic, electric & slide guitars, dobro); Brad Davis (acoustic & electric guitars); Gary Hogue (steel guitar); Steve Arnold (bass, backgroud vocals); Gregg Stocki (drums).
The title track, featuring Travis Tritt, was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration With Vocals.
Honky Tonkin's What I Do Best is a rather strange record for Marty Stuart, while remaining unquestionably something that reflects his character as a songwriter. Produced by Tony Brown (a producer who unquestionably gets most of the credit -- as well as the criticism -- for the contemporary country sound), the album was recorded in 1996. Stuart wrote or co-wrote virtually all the cuts on the set, some with friends, others with members of Brown's ready stable of go-tos at the time, like Kostas. The title cut, a duet with Travis Tritt, is stellar; it's classic rockin' rowdy honky tonkin' Stuart at his best. Then there's "The Mississippi Mud Cat and Sister Sheryl Crow," a song he ...

| | Neil Luckett Radio For Cats CD (2006)
Best Of Country & Line Dancing Vol. 1-Best Of Country & Line Dancing music CDs
$11.39 You slip 'Radio for Cats' into the player and think: Does this mean Neil Luckett, known for his work with modern-rock trio tvfordogs, has really been a folkie all along? And it turns out the answer is yes and no. Long an admirer of 1960s folk guitarists Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Davy Graham, and Nick Drake, Luckett likes to write melodic rave-ups on acoustic guitar and then amp them up for tvfordogs. The acoustic versions are his little secret. But 'Radio for Cats' is no mere ātvfordogs unplugged,ā no demo session. Itās a reimagining, a reinvention. We sat down with Luckett for a cuppa on the eve of the recordās release.Wampus Multimedia: You cite some interesting influences. Were you thinking of them as you recorded this record? Neil Luckett: Sure. And others, too. Their use of acoustic guitar is so imaginative -- textures and dynamics a lot of modern acoustic guitarists just donāt use. The songs donāt really fall into that ā60s Brit-folk style, but I think they work well that way. The one track that has those echoes is āRoadsong,ā which I wrote right at the end. I wanted something more akin to a Renbourn accompaniment. That one has a story, which might have been a subconscious response to the style. WM: Were you trying to create something āpersonal,ā or were your goals more musical?NL: ...
