The soundtrack to Toby Keith's movie debut, which stars the singer as a faded country star trying to reconnect with his roots, blends the sentimentality of Keith's performance on the title track with the passion of Fred Eaglesmith's "I'm Thinking About You." Matraca Berg's accordion-laced "Along for the Ride" highlights the exhilaration of new love, while the traditional gospel song "Uncloudy Day" features the all-star trio of Keith, Bebe Winans, and Willie Nelson, and Flynnville Train's "High on the Mountain" is pure Southern-fried country.
Composers: Randy Scruggs; Toby Keith.

| | Professor Louie & The Crowmatix Flyin' High CD (2002)
Broken Bridges Soundtrack album
$10.75 Additional personnel includes: Rick Danko (vocals, bass); Laurel Masse (vocals); John Platania (guitar); Larry Packer (violin); Tom "Bones" Malone (brass); Garth Hudson (keyboards).
Professor "Louie" and the Crowmatix are a group of veteran musicians based out of Woodstock, NY, and their second album, Flyin' High, certainly speaks clearly of the influence of hometown heroes the Band -- the album features tunes written by Levon Helm and Rick Danko. Garth Hudson plays keyboards on seven cuts, and frequent Band sideman Larry Packer adds violin to a cover of "Jack-A-Roe." Professor "Louie" (aka Aaron Hurwitz) at least comes by his Band influence honestly, as he helped produce and engineer the group's three post-Robbie Robertson efforts in the 1990s, and there's no arguing that he's put together a band who have the chops to do justice to the Band's expansive roots rock style. However, the point of the Band was never chops so much as great songs performed with heart and soul, and this is where the Crowmatix fall short of the mark; "Don't Wait," written by Levon Helm, is easily the most interesting tune here (and Hurwitz sings it with very Levon-like drawl), while the bulk of the material written by various Crowmatix is expert but hollow, pleasant tunes well played but nothing that's likely to register in your memory. Flyin' High sounds like a great demo for a top-notch backing band that's in need of a songwriter and lead singer who can inject some much needed fire and personality into the formula; perhaps their neighbors Marshall Crenshaw or Graham Parker might be able to do something memorable with them. ~ Mark Deming
Aaron Hurwitz (aka Professor Louie) was a session musician on three records recorded by the Band in the mid-'90s, and it shows throughout Flyin' High. The 11 songs on Flyin' High are, like the Band, a deft mix of Americana genres, including bluegrass, zydeco, folk, rockabilly, and others. There are some notable guest appearances and collaborations throughout, including several appearances by the Band's Garth Hudson (whose own The Sea to the North is one of the finer Band-related projects), ...

| | Maxine Blake & Promise In Him We Live CD (2003)
Broken Bridges Soundtrack music CDs
$15.49 Maxine Blake & Promise Promise was birthed out of Maxine Blake Ministries, seven years ago. They operate in the same anointing as she - like the oil on Aaron's beard that covers her entire ministry. The ministry of Maxine Blake & Promise is unique. Their music is a true reflection of what life and ministry is all about. For instance, they minister about real life experiences that can reach the young and the not so young, the saved and the unsaved. The genre of their music is a cross between traditional, contemporary, neo-soul and a hint of jazz. (They are in the process of making another album that will focus on worship like never before. Their unique harmony will get you off your sit and on your knees or it will have you on your face before the Lord.) Their music is meant to uplift, move and jubilate their listeners by illuminating a hope that all is not lost and they must hold on a little while longer, knowing that God promised through His Son that everything would be all right.Their music is inspirational in nature and has a "funky" type of beat. However, it does not get lost in commercialism. Listeners can get a clear picture that Maxine Blake & Promise are singing about God! The songs are written on the Word of God, but are not Bible-beating, in other words, their music will not repel, but rather, it will compel one to come to know the Lord for herself. People who are not saved enjoy their music as well which is evident when they sing about Jesus, at local lounges, malls, The Auburn Fest and Underground Atlanta as well as when they tour the country. This group is multitalented, complete with songwriters and arrangers. ...
