Favole Per Adulti album
$10.65 CARMINE MEO is a pop-classical hybrid by opera singer Emma Shapplin.
Every year or two somebody from the classical world gets the bright idea to record a classical album with a little something extra for the groundlings: some percussion, some sound effects, maybe some strings. Sometimes the result is insulting, sometimes it's just gilding the lily, and sometimes it works. Carmine Meo, however, sidesteps this problematic phenomenon ...

| | Lhasa CD (2009)
Favole Per Adulti music CDs
$14.95 Lhasa's earlier work included arrangements that drew on ranchera and Gypsy music, as well as American, Canadian, and Mexican folk, French chanson, and pop. The international flavor is more subtle on LHASA, without vanishing entirely. The songs on the album all deal with love, usually of the obsessive, hopeless, and doomed variety, and even at ...

| | Pink Martini Hang On Little Tomato CD (2004)
Favole Per Adulti CD music
$14.59 Pink Martini brings new definition to the word "eclectic." Bridging ethnic divides, this ensemble creates music that draws from jazz, Afro-Cuban, Asian, classical, and both Western and Eastern European folk traditions.
In addition to a myriad of world-music influences, HANG ON LITTLE TOMATO, Pink Martini's sophomore effort, features a total of six different languages. For example, "Kikuchiyo to Mohshimasu" explores the music of Japan; to help add authenticity to this track, Pink Martini invited a Japanese slide guitarist to sit in with the band. The record's opener, "Let's Never Stop Falling in Love," is a salsa ballad that highlights China Forbes's sultry voice; here she sings in English, but the music is clearly based on Latin rhythms. Since almost every musical style seems to be fair game, the title track boldly borrows from swing-era jazz, with this clarinet ballad harking back to the Golden Age of Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw. Throughout the album, Pink Martini's musical director, Thomas Lauderdale, ...
| | Jane Siberry When I Was A Boy CD (1993)
Favole Per Adulti music CDs
$8.39 Jane Siberry's last album during a five-year critically-applauded but commercially-negligible tenure with Reprise Records, 1993's WHEN I WAS A BOY trades the optimistic loveliness of albums like THE WALKING and BOUND BY THE BEAUTY for a darker, occasionally bleak meditation on love and loss. Inspired by the recent death of her father, Siberry has constructed a song cycle with little of the exhibitionistic mawkishness of, say, Sinead O'Connor's I DO NOT WANT WHAT I HAVEN'T GOT.
Instead, Siberry's lyrics are more general and poetic, which makes their emotional heft that much greater. The heartbreaking "The Vigil (The Sea)" and the cathartic and uplifting "Love Is Everything"--here in two versions--are as powerful and musically breathtaking as any pop music dealing with the subject of death.
Recorded at Mushroom Studios, Vancouver, Canada in Summer 1991; Reaction Studios, Toronto, Canada in Autumn 1991 and January 1993; Erdyl's Studio Backstage, Switzerland in February 1991; Westside Studios, London, England in Summer 1992.
Engineers: Michael Phillip-Wojewoda, Peter Mettler.
Composers: Erdal Kizilgay; Ken Myhr; Jane Siberry.
Personnel: Jane Siberry (vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards, background vocals); Ken Myhr (vocals, guitar); ...

Favole Per Adulti music CDs
$11.55 Devoted death metal fans have long known Quebec as a bubbling cauldron of awesome progressive death metal bands. Starting with Voivod and Gorguts in the late '80s and early '90s, and really booming during the latter decade and the 2000s with Cryptopsy, Neuraxis, Unexpect, Martyr, Beneath the Massacre, et al., the region has produced a staggering number of bands of this type. Well, add Augury to that impressive roster. These guys (formerly guys and girl, though vocalist Arianne Fleury departed between 2004's Concealed and this release) make up one of the most astonishing prog-death bands on the planet, and Fragmentary Evidence is one of the best metal albums of 2009. ...
