On his second studio outing, Robert Randolph leads his Family Band through a typically energetic set. Although it features guest appearances by Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews, and R&B vocalist Leela James, COLORBLIND is clearly Randolph's show from start to finish, with his passionate voice and searing steel-guitar work at the fore throughout this assured set. Randolph deftly mixes funk, soul, and rock, and gives the latter style unexpected prominence on fierce tracks such as the stomping "Thrill of It" and "Homecoming," a gospel-tinged song that is marked by slightly ominous six-string riffs and blistering solos. This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
