| | Aventura God's Project CD (2005)
La Travesia CD music
$11.59 Since its formation in the Bronx, New York in 1994, Dominican boy band Aventura has been steadily expanding its sound toward a style that incorporates hip-hop, R&B, rock, merengue, and reggaeton, while still retaining strong traces of traditional bachata. GOD'S PROJECT is the culmination of Aventura's stylistic expansion, and is the group's most mature, diverse, and accomplished album.
The sounds of bachata--the quartet's foundation--are still prominent, especially on "Ciego de Amor," which features a cameo by Antony Santos, one of the Dominican Republic's leading bachata artists (not to be confused with Aventura's own Anthony "Romeo" Santos). The group also ventures deep into reggaeton territory on the likes of "Ella y Yo" (which stars reggaeton kingpin Don Omar). Various international flavors work their way into the mix, particularly the samples of Asian music that crop up here and there, and the strains of traditional flamenco on "Un Beso." All of this is wrapped ...

| | Mifune Time Is Watching Us CD (2008)
La Travesia album
$16.45 Taking the artistic passion of eight individuals and making something that’s cohesive and without pretension can be a tall order. Mifuné knows this. The diversity of elements that make up this group is akin to spinning around and around in a record store stopping and pointing at random sections. The amalgamation of styles is nothing new in American music, and Mifuné hails from the true America, the gritty, post-industrial gem of a town, Cleveland, Ohio. This reality is fuel for the funky poly-rhythms, tight harmonies, soulful vocals and the blazing horns that create the irresistible pulse that marks the group’s compositions. Live, the group inspires an atmosphere as diverse as their components. Sure, the deep rooted grooves will make you dance, but it’s also all at once a joyful, thought-provoking, and passionate affair. With two albums out (afro-electronique 2006) and “Time is Watching Us” (nov 2008), Mifuné continues the quest to bottle their unique sound on wax. Along the path there have been some honors and awards, some notable shows and some peculiar moments, all of them befitting a hard working band on the road. Most of the group’s journey is explained best, like everything else in life, inside the music. Here is what the press is saying:"It goes without saying that each of the musicians in Mifune is talented, and it is this professional quality that allows the tracks to meander into different styles effortlessly and believably.Almost every track could be neatly packaged as a single..."-The Lakewood Observer"The group has always made music that's suitable for either listening or dancing; if anything, they've enhanced both sides of the equation with their intricate arrangements, sinuous melodies and thoughtful lyrics, coupled ...
