Cul de Sac is an instrumental quartet of guitar, synthesizer, bass, and drums. ECIM contains moments of singular beauty that emerge from thickets of dense and hypnotic sound. Sometimes ECIM resembles a beautiful bird, other times it's more like a gargoyle plopped down in the middle of a flowerbed. Guitarist Glenn Jones, as the primary songwriter, brings a refreshingly broad and open approach to composition in incorporating all four players. Robin Amos' synthesizer and Jones' guitar take center stage, with the former wringing every sonic possibility he can out of the electronics, but never sounding showy or cliched. The unsung heroes here are the members of the rhythm section--Chris Fujiwara on bass and Chris Guttmacher on drums. They are the solid but undulating foundation upon which everything else is built.

The Wire (p.55) - "[E]ven with its idiosyncratic touches -- spacey effects, bursts of noise, crafty covers -- ECIM's most compelling trait is unfettered power."
