(15 Customer Reviews)
This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
Weird Al Yankovic's STRAIGHT OUTTA LYNWOOD further assures his heavyweight title as the king of pop parody. Chamillionaire's "Ridin'Dirty" is spun into a self-conscious poke at race when it becomes "White and Nerdy," and the national boundaries of Green Day's "American Idiot" are shifted in "Canadian Idiot." Elsewhere, Weird Al takes on the Killers, Usher, and the Black Eyed Peas, but he also contributes several originals that display the same goofy, satirical edge as his comic revisions of the hits. Longtime fans of Weird Al's shtick will have plenty to enjoy, and the DualDisc version, which contains animation, karaoke versions, and a featurette, is icing on the cake.
"Weird Al" continues to reward his countless fans around the globe with yet another collection of insanely incisive musical comedy, featuring some of the biggest contemporary hits performed in polka style. This Dualdisc includes the album on the CD side, and on the DVD side, all original animateions of All's tarcks. All-star animators include Bill Plympton, John Kricfalusi, Seth Green, and Matt Senreich. Also included are karaoke versions of the entire album including a scrolling lyric sheet for each track. Additional a behind-the-scenes featurette is included, plus a 5.1 Dolby mix of the entire album.
Personnel: Weird Al Yankovic (vocals, various instruments); Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz (various instruments, programming); Jim West (guitar, banjo, keyboards, programming, background vocals); Steve Jay (banjo, flute, synthesizer, bass guitar, background vocals); Lee Thornburg (trumpet); Tommy Johnson (tuba).Rolling Stone (p.132) - 3 stars out of 4 -- "In almost eleven minutes of 'Trapped in the Drive-Thru,' Yankovic finds slow-motion comedy gold in a couple arguing over dinner..." Funny White & Nerdy is my new favorite song. This probably one of Al's best CD's. Submitted by bobby (Columbia, MO, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Could Have Been Better... Don't get me wrong, I love Weird Al and all of his songs (my favorites are white and nerdy and amish paradise) but this CD didn't have the type of songs I was hoping for. I only really bought this CD for White and Nerdy, Trapped in the Drive Thru, and Do I Creep you out. I hope my review was helpful. Submitted by Brad (Jacksonville, FL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Awsome I've heard a few weird al songs and seen a few of his videos but this is the first cd I bought by him and it was just awsome! Confessions Part 3 is one of the best, along with White and Nerdy. A great buy Submitted by Ryder (Florida) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Good album, bad dual disc design This album features some songs that rank up there with Al's best. A couple seem don't quite live up. 4 stars for the music. What bufoon decided on the content of the dual-disc? I don't want animated cartoons! I want real videos. I'd chuck 'em all for white and nerdy. And why is the "high-res" stereo mix only in 16 bit 48k? No wonder this dual-disc format is failing along with SACD and DVD-A. I guess they think Weird Al fans don't appreciate high resolution audio. Yet they think we need a surround sound version. I sure don't need stupid cartoons. Submitted by Dave (Western Massachusetts) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
