(1 Customer Review)
The product of a casual afternoon jam session in 1956 between Elvis Presley, then the biggest star in America, and the rock & roll legends Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins, these songs are a world away from the tight, well-produced ... Full Descriptionrock & roll that Sam Phillips's Sun Studios was recording and releasing in the mid-1950s. More than half the material heard here consists of gospel music, and there are also versions of Chuck Berry's "Brown-Eyed Handsome Man" and "Too Much Monkey Business," as well as some classic country songs penned by Hank Snow, Gene Autry, and Bill Monroe. Relaxed and informal, these recordings are an illuminating snapshot of a moment in rock & roll history.
Liner Note Author: Colin Escott.Mojo (Publisher) (p.115) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he session has, for the first time, been pieced together in the very order that it took place....The session transmutes into a ramshackle chunk of joy..." Complete Million Dollar Quartet album
$25.19 While MUSICALLY RICH...AND FAMOUS documents the second half of British blues godfather Alexis Korner's career, KORNERSTONED adopts a more comprehensive approach, following the pioneering singer/guitarist from the very beginning of his musical life, all the way through every subsequent phase of his development. So we get not only his mid-1960s work with burgeoning blues-rock giants like Paul Rodgers and Steve Marriott, but also his `50s skiffle recordings (basically the British version of jug-band music) with the Ken Colyer ...
| | Jerry Lee Lewis Last Man Standing CD (2006)
Complete Million Dollar Quartet CD music
$17.19 Around the time of his 71st birthday, rock-&-roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis unveiled LAST MAN STANDING, a celebratory outing that features a stunning cast of guest musicians, ranging from B.B. King and Little Richard to Merle Haggard and Neil Young. Among the many highlights of this album are Lewis's lively collaboration with guitarist Jimmy Page on Led Zeppelin's "Rock N' Roll," a rendition that wonderfully plays up the tune's 1950s leanings, and the Killer's honky-tonk spin on Hank Williams's "Lost ...

| | Life Less Lived: The Gothic Box CDs (2006) Boxed Set
Complete Million Dollar Quartet CD music
$55.49 Box set packaged in hard case with 58-page softcover book, within corset slip-cover.
Rhino is known for their lovingly selected and packaged box sets, but they've completely outdone themselves with LIFE LESS LIVED: THE GOTHIC BOX. It gives a bird's-eye view of the antecedents, offshoots, and major practitioners of Goth rock, attempting--and in large part, succeeding--to provide a definitive overview. Die-hard Goths may quibble over who truly belongs here, but with a track list that includes Joy Division, Bauhuas, Gene Loves Jezebel, Throbbing Gristle, Siouxie and the Banshees, the Sisters of Mercy, and almost everyone else whose music caused listeners to don black eyeshadow, it's difficult to really complain. In addition to three discs worth of music, there is also an extensive, sumptuous booklet and an excellent DVD featuring 12 tracks.
This 3 CD/DVD set features the biggest names in Goth music including The Cure, Bauhaus, Sisters Of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim, Mission UK, Love & Rockets, Jesus & Mary Chain, Echo & the Bunnymen, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Ministry, The Cult, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Joy Division, Tones On Tail, Birthday Party, Southern Death Cult, Alien Sex Fiend, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Gene Loves Jezebel, Flesh For Lulu, Peter Murphy, Lords Of the New Church, ...
