Over a decade of criss-crossing genres makes it easy to forget that Beck's first big hit was, essentially, a rap song. It's not surprising, then, that about half of the songs on 2006's THE INFORMATION are some shade of hip-hop dance-floor funk. ... Full DescriptionAnd while no one's going to mistake Beck for Young Buck, he brings his own brand of intelligent, laid-back confidence to every track, from the stuttering brilliance of "1000 BPM" to the lolling funk of "Elevator Music" to the lo-fi breakbeat grooves of "Cellphone's Dead" to the 10 minutes of atmospheric chill-out that close the album.
But the presence of Nigel Godrich--who produced both the most beloved (MUTATIONS) and underrated (SEA CHANGES) of Beck's albums--insures that this isn't going to be a one-note affair. Godrich shapes the more pop-leaning songs into low-gloss gems, exercising both imagination and restraint: the intensity of "New Round" comes not from big, fancy production but from multiple layers of the same insistent vocal line. "Think I'm in Love" is a sticky little garage-rocker with a hyper bass line, while "Strange Apparition" is a bit of Laurel Canyon folk-rock amidst all the funk & crunk. It's reassuring to know that on his seventh full-length album, neither Beck nor his best collaborator have run out of fresh ideas.
This set includes a 15-song CD album 3 years in the making, as well as a DVD featuring homemade videos for each songs shot in-studio during the actual sessions. The Information album
$12.45 Beck's sixth major-label album is a stunning return to the anything-goes format of 1996's ODELAY. Standing in sharp contrast to its predecessor--the quiet, somber SEA CHANGE--2005's GUERO is the sound of the Los Angeles singer/songwriter cutting loose and getting back to the slacker funk that won him legions of fans in the 1990s.
"E-Pro" kicks off the festivities with a heavy guitar riff and a Beastie Boys-sampled beat, while "Que Onda Guero" revels in a sunny Latin vibe, with Beck rapping (surprisingly well) in Spanish. However, this outing also offers up MUTATIONS-worthy melodic pop, particularly on "Girl," a brilliantly catchy tune carried along by acoustic guitar, handclaps, and lush vocal harmonies. Beck's reunion with sound sculptors Mike Simpson and John King (the Dust Brothers) breathes plenty of life into these tracks, including the heavily percussive "Black Tambourine" and the '70s-inspired "Earthquake Weather." Jack White (of the famously bass-less ...
| | White Stripes Get Behind Me Satan CD (2005)
The Information CD music
$22.85 Between 2003's hugely successful ELEPHANT and 2005's GET BEHIND ME SATAN, White Stripes frontman Jack White produced Loretta Lynn's Grammy-winning VAN LEAR ROSE and contributed a handful of tracks to the bluegrass-heavy COLD MOUNTAIN soundtrack. While GET BEHIND ME SATAN certainly isn't a country album, it does highlight White's fascinatingly unpredictable nature. With the exception of a few songs (including the blistering single "Blue Orchid"), Jack leaves his electric six-string in ...

The Information music CDs
$11.59 Reportedly the fastest-selling debut in British history at the time of its early-2006 release, the Arctic Monkeys' WHATEVER PEOPLE SAY I AM, THAT'S WHAT I'M NOT is a brash, hook-filled album that immediately warrants music fans' attention, if perhaps not all of the pre-release hype. Clearly taking notes on the evolution of U.K. punk, the Sheffield-based band reveal the influence of revered predecessors such as the Jam and the Clash, while most notably evoking the Libertines in their youthful, hood-rat persona. On ...
| | Raconteurs Broken Boy Soldiers CD (2006)
The Information songs
$20.05 Not as raucous or eccentric as the White Stripes' material, yet notably edgier than Benson's pop-savvy outings, BROKEN BOY SOLDIERS offers an excellent fusion of the two singer/songwriters' sensibilities. The mix is made even more cohesive by the disc's clear 1960/'70s vibe, which is best revealed on the opening single "Steady, As She Goes," a track that recalls both the Kinks and Led Zeppelin, while never falling into mere pastiche. Although White is unmistakably the strongest presence on the album, especially with his bursts of six-string fury, the more mild-mannered Benson gets a turn in the spotlight, most notably on the laid-back Beatlesque tune "Together." A collaboration that lives up to, and often exceeds, expectations, the Raconteurs allows White and Benson to enhance, rather than dilute, their considerable talents.
The Raconteurs are a new band made up of old friends, consisting of Jack Lawrence, Patrick Keeler, Brendan Benson and Jack White. The seed was sewn in an attic in the middle of a hot summer when friends Jack White and Brendan Benson got together and wrote a song that truly inspired them. The inspiration led to a creation ...

You want real Information? This is a great album. Don't get me wrong. Although it does seem that Beck is once again diving deep into the realm of song writing rather than jumping on the band wagon of pop hits (although when he does seem to get a "pop song" it usually seems to be by total accident). The lyrics are very nice, Beck once again demonstrating that he is in fact a great artist, and equally so a musician.
This album very melodic, something that you'd listen to if you had a really long drive a head of you, very much worth buying. Submitted by justlikeaphoto (Schuyler, NE, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
