Flow Season album
$8.09 Diamond D had quietly provided some exciting production work and made strides within the rap music industry and community throughout the early '90s, but his name didn't become immediately recognizable until his classic guest appearance rapping on A Tribe Called Quest's "Show Business" ("Take it from Diamond/It's like mountain climbing/When it comes to rhyming/You gotta put your time in"), off their masterful second album, The Low End Theory. Even amid vintage verses by such lauded hip-hop company as Tribe's Q-Tip and Phife and Brand Nubian's Lord Jamar and Sadat X, something about Diamond D's forthright and rock-solid, but totally laid-back, style stood out. Hip-hop heads waiting to hear more from him were rewarded with a veritable wealth of treasures when Stunts, Blunts & Hip-Hop, Diamond D's debut album, was released the following year. The album instantly became -- and remains -- something of an underground masterpiece. Stunts is a hugely sprawling, amorphous thing. Nearly 70 minutes would generally seem far too long for a hip-hop album to sustain any degree of good taste, especially one that is mostly song-based and keeps the de rigueur between-song skits to a minimum. There is, in fact, a fair amount of filler here; but even that filler, after several listens, is so ingratiating that the album would seem incomplete without it, and it helps the album to actually be listenable in its entirety, as a single, long, whole statement. Part of the reason even the filler ...
| | Pete Rock Petestrumentals CD (2001) (Import) United Kingdom
Flow Season CD music
$9.65 This is an enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
PeteStrumentals follows Jay Dee's Welcome 2 Detroit as the second offering in BBE's producer spotlight "Beat Generation" series. If you approach Pete Rock's joint as a song-oriented pop album, you may feel disappointed. Only two tracks ("Cake" and "Nothin' Lesser - Jamie's Mix") feature MCs and the repetitive, consistently mid-tempo beats get somewhat monotonous by the end of most tracks. If you approach the album as a radical work of sonic architecture, you may also feel disappointed, since Rock's relatively old-school sensibility isn't likely to make you hear music in a completely new way. But if you approach PeteStrumentals on its own terms -- as a laid-back collection of atmospheric beats ideal for late-night chilling or freestyling over -- then you may enjoy Pete Rock's soulful funk-jazz grooves, which are first rate for this type of recording. The deep bass and whispered "play back" vocal sample on "For the People," jazzy piano loop on "Hip Hopcrisy," big-band sax on "Smooth Sailing," layered horns and vibes on "Pete's Jazz," and strings on "Give It to Y'all" (as well as the scratching that starts about two minutes into the song) all fit together to form a first-rate instrumental joint. The MC tracks with Rock Marciano, Divine, ...

| | Nagaraj Ancient Wayz CD (2005)
Flow Season CD music
$15.89 Nagaraj (Tajh Abdulsamad) is a member of universoul group "The Suns". Earlier in their career they were known as Motown recording artist "The Boys", a child group of four African American brothers who enchanted the world with their youthful charm, singing and dancing abilities, and back flips (acrobatics). They enjoyed multi-platinum success, world wide recognition, and honors. The Boys recorded three albums with Motown and then suddenly vanished. Over the years their fans wondered what happened to them. Unknown to many, around 1993 The Boys decided to retreat from the lime light and work behind the scenes as writers and producers. After experiencing fame, fortune, and material success at a young age they began to wonder if there was anything more to life than chasing girls, money, and surface pleasures. As a result of their hearts yearning, they crossed paths with guides and teachers that revealed to them the path of self realization, and mystic enlightenment. The further they traveled upon the path of spirit, the further the distance became between them and their obligations with the music industry. After twelve years of concentrated study and practice within the cocoon of self transformation they emerged as "The Suns" (Suns of Light) with a catalog consisting of ...
| | Stranger Than Fiction Persona CD (2005)
Flow Season music CDs
$6.69 Boston's Stranger Than Fiction has been established for about four years. The band was brought together by a post-it note displayed in a music store window by Aaron Gacs (honestly he looked like he wrote it with his toes). Gary Adams answered the ad, and the rest is history! After listening to Aaron play the piano, seeing his passion for music and hearing his catchy songs, Gary knew that Aaron was going to be successful. Bassist Chris Derro was also looking for a new challenge. He had been in another band with Gary, and he was the best finger pick guitar player Gary had ever met. Chris joined Gary and Aaron, and after playing together for a few months, the trio decided to look for a guitar player. They posted an ad in a local music store and got a load of calls. The guys know it would be worth their while to be picky-they tried out about 25 guitar players before meeting Scott Farrell. He was a little nervous and said he mostly played metal, so the four musicians decided to jam. After the first two minutes of his tryout, Aaron, Chris, and Gary were totally amazed-they knew this was the guy! The band played together for a while, learning cover songs and starting to work on originals. The response they received at local clubs and parties was overwhelming: Gary's tasteful drumming combined well in a live setting with Chris's smooth bass lines, Scott's rocking guitar riffs and Aaron's powerful vocals and magical piano playing. Persona, Stranger Than Fiction's first album, could not have happened without the knowledge, patience and friendship of producer Mark McKnight. (If the band had gone anywhere else, Gary would have had to sign his house over to the studio, given the number of recording hours they put in). Mark stepped up and realized that these guys all had good ideas, and it was ...
