Although Bill Wyman will forever be known as the former bass player for the Rolling Stones, the bassist issued several solo albums over the years. Most longtime Stones fans are only familiar with a single Wyman composition (since Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were responsible for the majority of the band's songwriting), the psychedelic "In Another Land" off 1967's THEIR SATANIC MAJESTIES REQUEST.

But such solo releases as 1976's STONE ALONE showed that Wyman was capable of writing and recording on his own. Although the songs are not on par with Jagger-Richards compositions (that's hardly a criticism), STONE ALONE contains several highlights, especially the rocking and fun album opening cover of Gary U.S. Bond's "Quarter to Three."

Personnel includes: Bill Wyman (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, piano, bass, percussion); Bob Welch, Danny Kortchmar (acoustic & electric guitars); Van Morrison (acoustic guitar, harmonica, alto saxophone); Tarry Taylor, Joe Walsh (electric & slide guitars); Jackie Clark, Ronnie Wood (electric guitar); Joen Mcfee (pedal steel guitar, fiddle); Mark Colby (saxophone); Floyd Cooley (tuba); Nicky Hopkins (piano, organ); Mark Naftalin, Joe Vitale, Al Kooper (piano); Dr. John, Paul Harris (organ, marimba); Hubie Heard (organ); Albhy Galuten (synthesizer); Dallas Taylor (drums, percussion); Jim Keltner, Joe Vitale, Gregg Erico (drums); Robert Greenidge (steel drums); Guille Garcia, Rocki Dzidzornu (percussion); Ruth & Bonnie Pointer (background vocals).

Engineers: Gary Kjellgren, Howard Albert, Ron Albert.

VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD  (2002)

Stone Alone
CD $6.79  4.3 stars Top 100 Audio Samples
This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine." Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness than the Dublin production of RIVERDANCE. There's also a lovely rendition of Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" that's topped only by Ron Wood's reappearance on a finale of the Stones' "Ruby Tuesday." VH1 PRESENTS THE CORRS LIVE IN DUBLIN is a fine mix of the band's ...

Doors Soft Parade CD  (1969) Gold; Remastered

Stone Alone
CD $16.02  SALE 4 stars Top 100 Audio Samples
Dismissed by the benighted as the Doors' "pop album," SOFT PARADE is one of the band's most adventurous recordings, utilizing strings and horns without resorting to schlocky over-production and moving far beyond their blues roots. Morrison was fully into his shaman phase by 1969, and his obsession with that image is reflected in the proselytizing air of "Tell All the People," and of course "Shaman's Blues." The album's biggest hit "Touch Me," while easily the group's most radio-friendly offering, is a pop classic that ranks among the great '60s AM radio tunes. "Wild Child" is a brief return to the blues-rock of yore, but the title track is a sophisticated, extended piece that moves through several different moods and textures, full of the elliptical, poetic lyrics that were Morrison's trademark. Recorded at Elektra Sound Recorders, Los Angeles, California. Personnel: Jim Morrison (vocals); Robbie Krieger (guitar); ...

Shake Trippin' The Whole Colourful World CD  (2007)

Stone Alone
CD $12.39  Audio Samples
The Shake's debut album has listeners wondering what year it is and what country the band is from--this is prime 1960s American garage music, recorded in 2007 by a band from Spain, and the details are spot on. Even the production mimics the charmingly cardboard-y sound of NUGGETS-era psychedelia, and the songs are catchy, simple, and played ...

Marcel Soulodre Giddy Up CD  (2008)

Stone Alone
CD $16.45
Irrational Man is Marcel Soulodre. Marcel has been singing and playing music all of his life. He is an accomplished singer / songwriter who has garnered many awards for his songs and albums. He has covered a wide range of music from solo folk to post punk to rocking cajun and zydeco. He has released three CD\'s on his own independant label, Irrational Man.Marcel\'s francophone heritage and his time spent exploring the musical heritage of South West Louisiana have blended to form his unique sound. Marcel\'s numerous TV appearances and radio play of his albums has enabled him to tour extensively across Canada, the US and France.Marcel was born in a moving car and has been wandering ever since. His interests do not include traffic jams, yachting and gasoline powered vehicles. He can often be found traversing North America looking for his next gig and vehicle propane for his van Bertha.Marcel’s first public performance was playing in his family’s orchestra on his brother’s pirate radio station. It was broadcast from their basement and had an audience of eight neighboring households.Calling his music Western, because that’s where he’s from, Marcel feels his songs need no further categorization.\" It’s just stuff that I remembered ...
