| Go With What You Know Music Review Average Rating: (3.4 out of 5 stars) Dweezil sounding more like Dad. Dweezil writes in the liner notes that some of the songs on this CD were inspired by his changed playing techniques to learn songs for the Zappa Plays Zappa Tour. You can definitely hear Frank's influence coming through on these new songs and they are brilliant. Dweezil has always been incredible but this is one of my favorite CDs he has released. There are a lot of different styles played with more instrumentals than vocals and you will love them all like I do. Submitted by Chris (Billings, MT) Was This Review Helpful? Steping out of Dad´s Shadow Dont make the mistake and compare Dweezils music to Frank´s (which dont means its bad)
I really like Dweezils music, it sound new and innovative. His music is a mix of Hardrock, Progrock, Funk, and electronic music, which is a combination dont hear very often.
Another special thing about this one is that no song sounds like the other so you never get bored and you dont need to skip songs
What i can say about his guitar playing is that he is very good two years more of practice and he maybe plays like Steve Vai, he sounds like a mixture of Vai, Van Halen, Frank Zappa
the two negative points about this album are: that the songs are only 4 minutes long, they could be a little longer, more soloing and stuff.
and i would like a 2nd vocal track on this disc.
Im really looking forward to his next release even if it tooks him another six years so be it. Submitted by petruccifan (Frankfurt, Germany) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Lame Duck Son I don't hear the supposedly great music that other reviewers are praising Dweezil for on this release. If you call a bunch of generic grooves filled with superficial playing and Van Halen cliches great, then I guess it's a wonderful cd? The instrumental pieces don't even contain any melodies to speak of. The synth sounds are some of the most horrible stuff this side of the 1980s. Dweezil didn't have enough of his own lame material to fill up the cd so he's relying on his father's compositions. His treatment of Peaches En Regalia is very disrespectful as far as I'm concerned. Instead of recording his own arrangement with some live musicians, he chose to play over the tapes of his father's 1969 recording. This is atrocious, and a horrible thing to do to this great piece of music. Dweezil should quit sponging off Frank's legacy and Van Halen and come up with the goods himself or call it quits. Dweezil Rocks! Dweezil does an outstanding job of bringing back some Zappa style. All Roads Lead To Inca is unbelievable. If you get a chance to see Dweezil do a Zappa plays Zappa show, take it. He is incredible! Submitted by Pete (New York) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Dweezil Rips it up and does Frank Proud From the very beginning you can sense that dweezil has been refining his guitar style and becoming more accomplished. This guy is for real. All Roads lead to Inca and Peaches are unbeleivable. Get it. Submitted by Sean B. (New Jersey) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
