| | Michael W Smith Stand CD Michael W Smith Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
After flirting with a wider variety of musical influences for several albums, STAND returns Michael W. Smith to the CCM mainstream. Smith specializes in pop-rock power ballads that have their secular equivalent in the work of Phil Collins, Michael McDonald, and Journey's Steve Perry, and STAND features a number of excellent examples. Highlights include the piano-driven ballad "Grace" and the rousing opening track, "Cover Me," which has traces of both U2 and Creed.
Personnel: Michael W. Smith (vocals, piano); Rusty Anderson, Paul Moak, Bruce Gaitsch (guitars); David Davidson (violin); DeMarco Johnson (harmonica); Jeremy Bose (accordion); Patrick Warren (chamberlin, keyboards); James Gregory (bass instrument); Lindsay Jamieson (drums); Luis Conte (percussion).
Recording information: Dark Horse, Franklin, TN (2006).
Michael W Smith Stand Songs Stand Music Review Average Rating: (3.7 out of 5 stars) Smitty falls short just a bit with this project As a big MWS fan, this album does not stand (no pun intended) as strong as it should. In fact, the recording sounds a bit underproduced, unlike earlier Smitty works.
I am hoping that his next album will reach the same quality as albums like "Healing Rain", "I'll Lead You Home" and "Change Your World". All in all, I would have to give it a few more listens to really absorb the quality of the music. Submitted by gary_hill (Staten Island, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Its alright... Its a nice album, sort of, but it doesn't have any GREAT songs in, like Healing Rain, etc... It certainly gets better after listening to it a few times, but the music all seems quite samey. I still like it though, its just not as good as his other ones. "Stand" in the best!!! "Stand" is MWS's best album yet. Each song is energetic, spirited, yet also worshipful. The lyrics are simple and often repetitive, yet they work in this format. This is a top-knotch effort in every way. The only fault I find with it is that there are only 11 songs. Smith could have easily added a couple more songs to make the set fuller. Still, "Stand" is the best!!! Submitted by mistercarter2u (Richmond, VA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Green Day Warning: CD (2000)
Stand
$8.89 To debate whether or not Green Day truly was or is a punk band in the purest definition of the punk ethic now seems irrelevant. If nothing else, they're a pop band who can't seem to help but write good songs--in the case of WARNING, some really good songs. This album makes up for any missteps the band may have taken since the fluke success of DOOKIE.
From the Katrina And The Waves groove of "Castaway" to the Beatles-esque harmonica on "Hold On," WARNING inspires a sense of musical deja vu that never crosses the line into out-and-out thievery. Hands-down, the most interesting track here is "Misery," which struts along with Doors-like quirkiness and goes through a progression of cultural movements that take instrumental turns in the form of deep strings, mariachi brass, and acoustic guitar melodies. If there's a warning to be found here, it's that Green Day has become a real band. Not very punk of them, but promising all the same.

Stand
$15.89 This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
For its second outing THE YOUNG AND THE HOPELESS, Good Charlotte gives any notion of a sophomore jinx a combative boot to the side of the head thanks to an abundance of chanting choruses and choppy guitar riffs. Like standard-bearers Blink-182, this Maryland quartet frolics in a land of teen angst peppered with snarky optimism that comes across best within the margins of the rebellious "Anthem," rambunctious "Riot Girl" (no doubt a cousin of the Dead Milkmen's "Punk Rock Girl"), and Green Day-flavored title cut. Balancing out rambunctious fare like the Iggy Pop-inspired "Lifestyles Of The Rich & Famous" and the chuggin "Movin' On" is such tasty fare as the soul-baring "Emotionless" and Social Distortion-like "The Day I Die." With THE YOUNG AND THE HOPELESS, Good Charlotte takes the next step towards pop-punk world domination.
This new release, in the dualdisc format offers a full-length CD album on one side and and a DVD featuring the full album, usually in surround sound, along with videos, behind-the-scenes footage and a wide array of bonus material, including lyrics, biographies, PC content and more. Dualdisc format plays on existing CD and DVD players. DVD side includes exclusive behind-the-scenes interview footage from the band's 2003 tour, the entire album in enhanced LPCM Stereo, more.
