After flirting with a wider variety of musical influences for several albums, STAND returns Michael W. Smith to the CCM mainstream. Smith specializes in pop-rock power ballads that have their secular equivalent in the work of Phil Collins, Michael McDonald, and Journey's Steve Perry, and STAND features a number of excellent examples. Highlights include the piano-driven ballad "Grace" and the rousing opening track, "Cover Me," which has traces of both U2 and Creed.

Stand Music Review
Average Rating: (3.7 out of 5 stars) Smitty falls short just a bit with this project As a big MWS fan, this album does not stand (no pun intended) as strong as it should. In fact, the recording sounds a bit underproduced, unlike earlier Smitty works.
I am hoping that his next album will reach the same quality as albums like "Healing Rain", "I'll Lead You Home" and "Change Your World". All in all, I would have to give it a few more listens to really absorb the quality of the music. Submitted by gary_hill (Staten Island, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Its alright... Its a nice album, sort of, but it doesn't have any GREAT songs in, like Healing Rain, etc... It certainly gets better after listening to it a few times, but the music all seems quite samey. I still like it though, its just not as good as his other ones. "Stand" in the best!!! "Stand" is MWS's best album yet. Each song is energetic, spirited, yet also worshipful. The lyrics are simple and often repetitive, yet they work in this format. This is a top-knotch effort in every way. The only fault I find with it is that there are only 11 songs. Smith could have easily added a couple more songs to make the set fuller. Still, "Stand" is the best!!! Submitted by mistercarter2u (Richmond, VA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
