A solid two-disc compilation that covers nearly the full career of Yes from their early psych-folk tunes through their prog-rock epics and on to the slick pop hits of the 1980s, DEFINITIVE ROCK is the perfect summation of this long-running band. ... Full DescriptionAside from three radio hits from the band's late period, all tracks are presented in their original lengths, including the eight-and-a-half minute "Roundabout" and the full three-part "Starship Trooper." Unlike most Yes compilations, this one even includes a track from the short-lived 1980 lineup featuring the Buggles' Trevor Horn on vocals. Newcomers would do well to start here.
Yes: Billy Sherwood (vocals, guitar, keyboard); Steve Howe, Trevor Rabin (vocals, guitar); Chris Squire (vocals, bass guitar); Jon Anderson , Trevor Horn (vocals); Peter Banks (guitar); Geoff Downes, Patrick Moraz, Rick Wakeman, Tony Kaye, Igor Khoroshev (keyboard); Alan White, Bill Bruford (drum, percussion).

| Yes Word Is Live CDs (2005) With DVD
Definitive Rock CD music
$43.39 A three-disc collection of Yes concert performances dating from the early 1970s to the late '80s, THE WORD IS LIVE presents the pioneering British prog-rock group in its various incarnations. The first disc features live tracks from '70 and '71, when organist Tony Kaye's distinctive Hammond lines figured strongly into the band's performances, which here include a jam-heavy take on "America" that precedes its studio version. The second and third discs are filled with concert appearances that have Kaye's replacements, either keyboardist Rick Wakeman or Patrick Moraz, surging through classics such as "Sweet Dreams" and "Roundabout." The set goes on to include Kaye's return to the fold, most notably on the high-energy medley of "Make It Easy" and "Owner of a Lonely Heart." While hardcore, bootleg-seeking Yes fans have undoubtedly heard some of these recordings before, THE WORD IS LIVE performs a great service by compiling these era-spanning tracks, making the set essential for any enthusiast.

Definitive Rock music CDs
$11.89 Primus is sometimes considered a square peg in a round hole amongst the band's musical peers. Yet somehow, Les Claypool and company have always managed a perfect fit. On ANTIPOP, the band continues on its fearless musical journey. The impressive roster of guest artists is only part of the reason why this album is a must for music fans who walk their own paths.
Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello brings his percussive and unnerving guitar sound to "Electric Uncle Sam" and "Mama Didn't Raise No Fool." On the tongue-in-cheek "Sacred Cow," Les Claypool's distinctive slap-bass style shines. Guitarist Larry LaLonde is conservative yet brilliant in his moody, textural playing that is fitting without ever being flashy. "Eclectic Electric" brings together an unlikely pair of guests: Jim Martin and Metallica's James Hetfield, both of whom were in bands with the late Cliff Burton. Drummer Brian "Brain" Mantia, who returned to Primus for THE BROWN ALBUM, neatly fills the vacancy left by Tim Alexander, offering complex rhythms and jazz-influenced dynamics. ANTIPOP expresses the essence of a unique band embraced by people who don't mind a little pork in their soda.
