The fourth full-length from post-hardcore metal outfit Killswitch Engage steps up the already stellar caliber of the punishing music featured on their prior releases. In fact, AS DAYLIGHT DIES weighs in as one of the group's best releases, showing off their increasingly dazzling technical prowess and musical sophistication while never compromising their relentless attack.
That Killswitch Engage is able to mix melody with their sonic wallop is one of the band's greatest assets, and a song like "This Is Absolution," which alternates stomping screamo with a soaring singalong anthem, is a case in point. Vocalist Howard Jones can switch from subhuman roars to melodic metal singing in the blink of an eye, and the band, likewise, can drop into various meters, blaze through textured riffs, and create sledgehammer rhythms that thunder and crush. These qualities will be familiar to Killswitch fans, but the band just does everything better on AS DAYLIGHT DIES, turning in one of the most accomplished metal releases of 2006.

This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.Spin (p.101) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "The rhythm section lays down an almost buoyant grind, and the dual guitars launch flaming arrows of riffage." Alternative Press (p.183) - "Tracks like 'Unbroken' and 'My Curse' rock with the same effortless flow between ire and beauty that one might expect. Lead vocalist Howard Jones once again puts on a sensational display of range..." Killswitch Engage As Daylight Dies Songs As Daylight Dies Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Beastly Album!!! Howard Jones's vocals on this album are top-notch. He has great heavy screaming backed with higher-pitch screaming, which creates a cool dual effect. He also sings incredible clear, melodic pieces that are very powerful.
The guitar work is fantastic. The tempo changes keep it interesting, and the riffs are skull-crushing at times. At other times, they are more artistic sounding. This album has a great mix of sounds. This album opened my eyes to the hardcore metal genre. Before I heard this album, I HATED screaming vocals, but this album proves that they can be used in wonderful ways. I highly recommend this album!!! Submitted by Steve (Buffalo, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Great CD, Their Best Yet Im a kind of person who listens to all kinds of rock. This being the only great heavy metal cd ever. Killswitch Enage has come a long way and this is by far their best effort. "The Arms of Sorrow", "My Curse", and "For You" are the best songs by far. But the cd is great as a whole, definitly a must have!! Submitted by punkrockersrule (Saco, Me) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Awesome! Howard Jones' performance on this album aswell as the rest of the band blows me away! The heavy instrumental element combined with Howards screams/melodic vocal style make this release one of KSE's BEST. I strongly recommend this album to anyone who loves Metal and KSE! 5 easy stars!!! Submitted by squidrulez6 (Edmonton, AB, CAN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

As Daylight Dies album
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of ...

$13.05 A classic case of hindsight being 20/20, Killswitch Engage's eponymous debut is now viewed as a significant touchstone in the emergence of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal, but it had only a limited impact upon the insular Northeastern hardcore scene when it was released through Ferret Records in 2000 (and that was mostly because its musicians had previously been involved with influential underground bands like Overcast and Aftershock). One listen is all that's required to understand why. Like many of their peers at the time, the musicians in Killswitch Engage were boldly testing the spartan limitations of hardcore songwriting -- coming out of their inherited hardcore shell, if you will -- by introducing heretical elements from heavy metal, elements which most genre purists would consider anathema. These included all manner of deathly Cookie Monster grunts and shrieks, fusillades of fast-picked notes, and intricate minor-key melodies, plus all manner of technical instrumental showboating (histrionic solos, double kick-drum blastbeats, unorthodox time signatures, etc.), which lifted album standouts ...
