Although ROADMASTER has the feel of a completed album, it is actually a collection of top-quality outtakes. It was originally released only in Europe, where Clark's previous album, WHITE LIGHT, had been a critical success. ROADMASTER appeared seven years after Clark left the Byrds and has a laid-back, Sunday morning feel, characterized by Clark's chiming country rock.
Beneath the languid rhythms, however, are several songs that rank with Clark's best compositions. Two songs here, "She's The Kind Of Girl" and the lovely "One In A Hundred," feature performances by the original Byrds, while another track, "Full Circle Song," was later included on the Byrds' reunion album. These tunes stand alongside the Byrds' best songs, which is reason enough to explore this excellent, unjustly overlooked album.
Roadmaster is a collection of various Gene Clark recordings after leaving The Byrds, all the original Byrds are present on three tracks.

Vitamin C is Colleen Fitzpatrick, formerly of New York City's Eve's Plum. Her self-titled debut album finds the singer leaving the alt-rock stylings of her former band far behind in favor of a more urban, forward-looking sound.
The opening track, "Smile," employs the kind of Caucasian dance-hall rap style that made Barenaked Ladies famous, while "Unhappy Anniversary" is straightforward folk-pop, complete with jangling acoustic guitar and wistful vocals. "Me, Myself and I" cleverly interpolates the chorus from Santana's "No One to Depend On" in an arrangement that wouldn't sound out of place on a Smash Mouth album. Fitzpatrick makes good use of sunny pop melodies mixed with lazy hip-hop rhythms and state-of-the-art production touches throughout. And how could you not like a 1999 album that includes a cover of Split Enz' "I Got You"?

Don't let the makeup and masks fool you; while Mushroomhead appear on the surface much like a band of comic book villains, it's obvious that this Ohio octet are serious about their brand of bleak metal. Their previous release, XX, made a quick jump from the indie realm to a major label, and they secure that status with XIII. "Sun Doesn't Rise," "Kill Tomorrow," and "Eternal" feature Pantera-inspired, stop-on-a-dime riffing while "Mother Machine Gun" seems to borrow some swagger from the Cult.
The piano-driven "One More Day" bristles with emotional urgency, while "Nowhere to Go" is reminiscent of ANGEL DUST-era Faith No More. The heavy use of keyboards sets Mushroomhead apart from the nu-metal pack, and the departure from predominantly rappy vocals shows that the band is clearly evolving. The enhanced content on XIII features Internet links to non-album bonus tracks and other exclusive content.
