Yasmin Levy has proved herself to be the leading exponent of Ladino song (Ladino is the language of the Sephardic Jews whose roots are in Spain). However, her previous albums have never quite captured her potential. This time, though, she's hit the spot, finding both the intensity of performance and delicacy of arrangement that's ...

$18.95 Scott sure plays like a SOB- son of a bassist, that is. With his mother a big band singer and his father a jazz bassist, Dr. Scott Durbin first attended jazz gigs from the best seat in the house-his mother was pregnant and carrying him while she sang. "I've been playing since before I was born," says Scott. He remembers falling asleep as a boy at home jam sessions, only to find the music still going on when he woke the next morning. Born in Lansing Michigan, Scott studied classical piano from an early age. He began playing professionally at the age of 15 and earned a music scholarship to Michigan State University. He also took up trumpet and today excels as a keyboards, trumpet and flugel horn player. As a performer, composer and arranger, Scott has had songs recorded by R&B groups Rose Royce and Klymaxx as well as New Orleans trumpet great Al Hirt. His music was used as a program theme song on WJR Radio in Detroit and also on National Public Radio. Scott's original music was used on a Kenny Rogers network television special. He has done recording and arranging in Detroit and Los Angles for Motown Records producer Al Davis and had the opportunity of working with Stevie Wonder, and on Bob Seger's hit album Night Moves. Dr. Scott Durbin is currently a Chiropractor in Weed California, a rural town at the foot of a beautiful Mt. Shasta. His career took an unexpected turn when he injured ...

$11.49 News Item The track “Because” will be released Oct 14th 2007 on the ESC records compilation Beatles tribute CD titled “Step Into Love”. Included in the compilation are tracks from Brad Mehldau, Mike Miller, Michael Wolff and a host of other international jazz artists. The 3 of 3& (Tom Zink, Chris Wabich and Gannin Arnold) have played together (and separately) in the Los Angeles area for over 15 years in groups ranging from hard bop to R&B and Brazilian Jazz. In this their first recorded collaboration they are joined by Brian Bromberg and Jimmy Johnson on bass. Collectively and individually they show a wide versatility both musically and stylistically. Having played with artists as vaired as Sting, Lalo Shifrin, Ronnie Laws, Steve Tyrell, George Duke, Joe Walsh and Lee Ritenour and Taylor Hawkins to name a few. All three live in the Los Angeles area and split their time between live performance, touring and recording work.Tom ZinkAccordion? No way! Fortunately Tom’s accordion career spanned only one year: from the age of 4 to 5 years when he moved out of the frying pan and into the fire with the combo organ! And though he counts Jimmy Smith as one of his early and lasting musical influences he was happy to move to piano by age 6. Training progressed from classical to ragtime to bebop, finally settling into 10 years of study with legendary Jazz pianist Terry Trotter. Simultaneous study with Lyle “Spud” Murphy in the areas of composition, orchestration, scoring and arranging rounded out Tom’s musical education. Tom has performed with and recorded for a host of jazz and pop artists including Brian Bromberg, Ronnie Laws, Plas Johnson, Steve Tyrell, Jimmy Johnson, Dave Koz, Richard Elliot, Michael McDonald, Larry Koonse, Melvin Davis, and Anne Walsh. He has produced and/or performed on literally hundreds of titles for Yamaha’s Disclavier piano including projects with Joey DeFrancesco, Christopher Cross, Michael McDonald, John Novello, Carol Welsman, and Judy Roberts. Though this is their first group effort, Tom’s musical relationships with Chris and Gannin are perhaps his longest and most rewarding. More of those please!Chris WabichAccording to Nenette Evans, widow of Jazz great Bill Evans, Drummer Chris Wabich “lends subtlety and insight to Bill’s compositions". Chris counts himself fortunate to have the opportunity to play jazz for a living with wonderful artists in the LA area. He grew up and had his earliest musical training in Asheville, NC before coming to Southern California to finish his schooling. “Runouts” as a drum set guest artist include the University of Montana and Arizona state PAS, Pori Jazz Festival, Hisperia Carnival and FACES Ethno festival in Finland, Long Beach, Virginia, and Buffalo Symphony Orchestras, and CSU Summer Arts Workshops. Some of his recent projects include soundtracks for Ludacris, Sting, Malcolm in the Middle, Berlin, and CDs with bass virtuosos, Darek Oles, Brian Bromberg and Jimmy Johnson. He has also recorded with Sting, ...
