| | Ollo If If CD - Import Ollo Discography of CDs
"Whether mixing electro with great vocal pop melodies, or acoustic strums, stuttering hip hop beats and emotional static with dub, Sydney's OLLO have been compared with The Flaming Lips, The Triffids, Caribou, Prefuse 73 and Herbert. On this second vocal heavy album the Sydney boys prove how they managed to gatecrash BBC Radio 1's Festive 50 top 10 recently and why Linda Evangelista chooses to sashay down the catwalk to their music."" Purchase If If CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Leonard Cohen's Jukebox: The Songs That Inspired The Man CD (2010)
If If album
$18.38 Leonard Cohen has mentioned several songs that shaped his particular musical vision in various interviews over the years, and this interesting 25-track set collects a bunch of those together. The result is a fascinating blueprint for Cohen's creative template, and all of these selections make a kind of sense in that regard. And it's a varied group, with songs as different as the traditional "Careless ...
| | Randy Newman 12 Songs CD (1970) Gold
If If CD music
$19.49 Newman began his career as a contract songwriter, before embarking on a recording career renowned for sardonic wit. On this, his second album, the singer opted for simple accompaniment, his ragged voice and stylized piano supported largely by a crisp backing group that included Byrds guitarist Clarence White. Superb melodies were matched by an intense lyricism that embraced sometimes disquieting ...

| | Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Beat The Devil's Tattoo CD (2010) Digipak
If If songs
$11.18 Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's 2010 album, Beat the Devil's Tattoo, finds the band splitting the difference between the rootsy Americana of 2005's Howl and the return to fuzzed-out noise rock that was 2007's Baby 81. Having once again parted ways with original drummer Nick Jago, bassist Robert Levon Been and guitarist Peter Hayes seem to have found a renewed creative spark with replacement drummer Leah Shapiro. Shapiro comes to the fold with strong noise rock credentials, having been a member of the punk-psych N.Y.C.-based Dead Combo and touring with the Raveonettes. With an overall sound that seems inspired by a searing mix of old-timey blues mixed with a hypodermic blast of melodic noise, there is a driving, wild-eyed intensity to many of the tracks on Beat the Devil's Tattoo. From the opening death-ballad title track and the gospel-meets-Madchester "Conscience Killer," the stoned robot funk of "War Machine," and the blissed-out acoustic folk ballad "Sweet Feeling," BRMC are in top form. But if you're looking for gutting-jet-engine lift-off, the cosmically epic, sanguine rock anthem "Bad ...
| | Ten Years After Space In Time CD (1971)
If If album
$7.99 A SPACE IN TIME was Ten Years After's biggest commercial success. The reasons are pretty obvious; Alvin Lee's songwriting had improved markedly and there was far more stylistic variety than on their previous albums.
The big hit here was "I'd Love to Change the World," with its catchy acoustic guitar hook and the immortal opening ...
| | Train Save Me, San Francisco CD (2009)
If If CD music
$11.29 San Francisco's Train hit the charts with a bang early in the 21st century with hits like "Calling All Angels" and "Drops of Jupiter." They began as a band that courted an alternative audience and quickly traded it -- without changing their sound much -- for a more adult fanbase with mixed results. SAVE ME, SAN FRANCISCO took four years to make -- remember there was Monahan's solo album in the interim -- and involved a slew of musicians (because ...

| | Darkness Permission To Land CD (2003) (Import) United Kingdom
If If CD music
$13.35 Pouncing onto the British music scene like the hyperactive spawn of the late-1970s hard-rock scene, the Darkness unveiled their 2003 debut, PERMISSION TO LAND, to great success in the UK. Led by unitard-wearing, falsetto-brandishing vocalist/guitarist Justin Hawkins, the group revels in the kind of pop metal once made famous by Def Leppard and Whitesnake, boasting big guitar riffs and driving rock rhythms. The band's not-so-secret weapon is Hawkins himself--an irrepressible, high-kicking frontman who gleefully unleashes lyrics such as "a nimbus of blue light surrounds a crimson paw" in a voice that ranges from a growl to a wail rivaling Queen's Freddie Mercury or Judas Priest's Rob Halford.
Although the Darkness may come across as tongue-in-cheek metal revivalists, they're entirely sincere on soaring power ballads such as "Love Is Only a Feeling" and "Holding My Own." And when Hawkins screams out "guitar!" before the ...

| | Big Broadcast Vol. 2 CD (2006)
If If album
$14.35 Producer Rich Conaty did an excellent job for this CD of gathering together mostly obscure recordings from the 1924-1937 period, finishing Big Broadcast: Jazz and Popular Music of the 1920s and 1930s with two unissued performances. Along the way is an excellent mixture of white and black bands, instrumentals and vocals. Whether it is the early scat vocal of Don Redman with Fletcher Henderson ("My Papa Doesn't Two-Time No Time"), some period but worthy singing from Scrappy Lambert, Rube Bloom's complex but catchy "Soliloquy," an alternate take of Cab Calloway's "Is That Religion," the great Marion Harris singing "Blue Again" or Garland Wilson's heated piano solo version of "Just One of Those Things," there is much to enjoy and savor throughout this strong sampler. Even veteran collectors will find some of these selections to be very rare, and Rich Conaty's informative liner notes are an added plus. This very enjoyable release is highly recommended for '20s collectors. ~ Scott Yanow
Rich Conaty has for over 30 years hosted the weekly New York City radio program The Big Broadcast on WFUV-FM. Since he features jazz and pop music from the 1920s and '30s on his shows, his CD compilations (of which this is the second) stick to that era, emphasizing rarities. The Big Broadcast, Vol. 2 is mostly in chronological order (except for concluding with an unissued private recording of a 1932 Red Nichols broadcast performance), ranging from 1922 to 1936. Although it has a wide range of styles and moods, each selection has much to offer. Highlights from the 25 performances ...
