| | Jethro Tull Songs From The Wood CD (1977) Remastered
Rick Wakeman's Criminal Record music CDs
$10.49 Digitally remastred reissue of 1977 album includes two bonus tracks 'Beltane' (taken from the album 20 Years of Jethro Tull - track done at end of sessions) & 'Velvet Green' (live) (taken from 20 years of Jethro Tull - BBC In Concert Recording 1977). 11 tracks & liner notes written by Ian Anderson. Chrysalis. 2003.
In terms of rustic, tights-wearing, elf-loving, flute-heavy, British/Celtic folk-tinged '70s prog-rock, SONGS FROM THE WOOD is the most Tull of all Jethro Tull albums. By 1977 the band had ventured far enough from its heavy blues-rock beginnings to create a completely unique, idiosyncratic sound, filled with European folk mythology, rural imagery and an endearing combination of art-rock and British folk-rock. Elaborate synthesizer fanfares mix with delicate acoustic guitar tapestries, complex arrangements and odd time signatures. SONGS FROM ...

Rick Wakeman's Criminal Record songs
$10.49 HEAVY HORSES brings together the best elements of Jethro Tull's sonic arsenal: heavy guitars, intricate, evolving song structures, folk tendencies, and Ian Anderson's inimitable growl. The album opens with the bouncy "And the Mouse Police Never Sleeps," a fairy tale-like song about the adventures of a group of forest animals. "Acres Wild" features a disco-esque groove held down by funky drums and bass.
The album's out-and-out highlight is the nearly eight-minute "No Lullaby," a song that undergoes the sort of musical metamorphoses present in Tull's best material. Another exceptional effort is ...

Rick Wakeman's Criminal Record music CDs
$10.79 THE SINGLES COLLECTION collects tracks originally appearing between 1984 and 1991. Released the same day as a companion volume, B-SIDES COLLECTION, THE SINGLES is a non-chronological, yet curiously cohesive collection of industrial dance music. On early Puppy albums, individual songs tended to be overrun by the powerful vitriol of the record as a whole. On later ones, the interesting tracks were occasionally obscured by less interesting filler material. This collection draws together a number of tracks and, in doing so, gives each one the attention it deserves while simultaneously maintaining a level of constancy not heard since 1988's VIVISECT VI.
"Worlock Ed," a remix of Worlock from RABIES, is quintessential Skinny Puppy--Charles Manson samples, guitar riffs from "Helter Skelter," and Nivek Ogre's strangled, buried vocals. "Tin Omen," also from that album, features the band at its most Ministry-like, all clanging guitars and pummeling drum machines (no surprise given that the co-producer was Al Jourgensen). ...

Rick Wakeman's Criminal Record music CDs
$21.69 STATION TO STATION was the soundtrack to Bowie's nightlife. This time around he fashioned himself as the king of slick, the "Thin White Duke/Throwing darts in lover's eyes." This new persona enabled Bowie to show his sensual side and his affection for American soul music--something that would have seemed out of context on previous efforts.
The album's smooth vibe is evident in the funky guitar of "Golden Years," and mixed with a dangerous charm and the "side effects of the cocaine" on "Stay." Bowie had miraculously done it again--he picked up a new musical identity, and molded it to perfection.
STATION TO STATION was a refining period for Bowie. Gone was his other-worldly sexuality; The Thin White Duke was right here on Earth, no alien veneer, just a man completely run by his desires. It is then purely appropriate that the medium through which he expressed this lustful angle would be soul music. Carlos Alomar's biting guitar on "Golden Years" is straight out of the James Brown catalog, while the frantic drums and background vocals of "Stay" are pure strobe light disco.
Principally recorded at Cherokee Studios, Hollywood, California. Originally ...

Rick Wakeman's Criminal Record Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Criminal Record Definitely one of Rick's better albums! The first three tracks are absolutely prog-rockers. The fourth is classic Wakeman piano abilities being displayed. To me, the fifth/sixth tracks are weaker, however if you like Wakeman, you must own this CD!! in the top 5 of Rick's cd's one of the best rick has ever done. sharp synth leads, haunting pipes, and a great choir sound to boot. a little short, but what is on it is just prog at its best, way back when Submitted by teuscheld (jcksonville, fl. usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
one of the best prog at its finest. the pipes sound great. although its not Ricks favorite because he wanted more continuity in the cd, there is some excellent playing. In the top 5 of Wakemans recordings. Submitted by teuscheld (Jacksonville, Fl) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
