Swallowed A Star
$7.75 A HARD DAY'S NIGHT presents a fictionalized day in the life of the Beatles as they give a performance on a live television show. Filmed just a month after their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964, this film--the Beatles' first--introduces us to the unique personalities of each member of the band. The film opens with the Fab Four boarding a train mobbed with adoring young fans (mostly women) as they attempt to travel to the television studio in London. The antics of the band during rehearsals and makeup application provide a large part of the comic material in this feature, though there are other moments of pure hilarity. The unscripted vignette featuring a hangover-suffering ...

Every generation needs an artist who pushes the envelope and stretches the limits of acceptability to the extreme and beyond. Take the rebellious spirit of punk and the shocking theatrics of glam rock and it would only begin to explain Marilyn Manson. The band's short history is steeped in infamy. The rumors, near-riots, banning of concerts, and outrageous stage antics all culminate on THE LAST TOUR ON EARTH, the band's first live album.
Marilyn Manson's version of "Sweet Dreams," which made the band bastard darlings of MTV and radio, gets an explosive reaction from the live audience. Manson's critique of modern-day shallowness comes to life in "The Dope Show." In his introduction before "I Don't Like the Drugs (But the Drugs Like Me)," Marilyn Manson sounds eerily like Jim Morrison as he describes a previous night's "dream." The most chilling moment of THE LAST TOUR ON EARTH is during "Irresponsible Hate Anthem" as Manson leads the audience in a mantra of, "we hate love, we love hate." Even as protesters demonstrate outside of the concert venue, ...

| | Allen Brown Foolin' Myself CD (2006)
Swallowed A Star
$11.49 Debut CD Available for Pre-order April 18, 2006Like a character out of a country song, Allen Brown moved to Nashville from a tiny Texas town in an old Ford truck with a secondhand guitar and a sack full of songs, dreams, and family tradition.Brown is the third generation country artist in his family â his grandfather Arvil Pritchett played harmonica for Ernest Tubb on the Texas circuit for years. âErnest Tubb wanted my grandfather to come to Nashville with him, but my mother was a baby at the time, so he decided to stay in Texas with his family. My grandfather went to his grave with that unanswered question of âwhat ifâ? I vowed to him that I would not live with the same unanswered question.â For Brown, the answer to that question was not an easy one. He faced three choices: join the Texas circuit of touring bands with the likes of Tommy Alverson and Rusty Weir, follow in the footsteps of many legends and unknowns before him and move to Nashville, or give up music altogether. With the support and encouragement of his family, Brown chose Nashville. It seems a natural choice for someone who has been singing since the age of five, playing guitar since 10, and singing in front of VFW and regional Opry crowds since 12. The biggest surprise is not that Brown came to Nashville, but that it took him several years and career choices âroughstock rider, rancher, real estate agent, Army National Guard tank gunner â to embrace his true calling.âFor me, there is emotional and spiritual uplift in the power of a song. To walk out on stage and leave the crowd smiling at the end of the night is the ultimate. When I write a song, I write because thereâs something I want to say and share with people.âInfluenced by country greats such as George Strait, Johnny Paycheck, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and Keith Whitley and gifted with a charisma that draws in an audience, Brownâs songs pay tribute to country musicâs roots while adding a modern flavor that can only be described as âAllen-tude.â His contagious onstage energy keeps the crowd involved through the last note of the night. Even the occasional gospel song becomes a sing-along without seeming irreverent or preachy, and a song about the importance of family makes a strong statement while avoiding political overtones. Always seeking to make a difference in some way, Brown has recently founded an âAdopt a Companyâ program in support of troops serving overseas. The program, in conjunction with local Supplies For Soldiers efforts, will help put together care packages for US troops. The program is currently seeking other country artists to help support it. In the future, he hopes to become involved in Farm Aid, knowing firsthand the importance ...
