Those who need more than the single-disc set of number-one singles, but less than the full box sets covering Elvis's1950s, '60s and '70s output, will be most pleased with BMG's two-disc compilation, THE ESSENTIAL ELVIS PRESLEY. With 40 tracks in chronological order--beginning with the epochal "That's All Right (Mama)" up to the title track of his final album, "Moody Blue"--this anthology is as straightforward as its name. From the early rockabilly classics to epic romantic ballads like "Suspicious Minds" and "Always On My Mind," and from movie hits like "Viva Las Vegas" to bluesy rockers like "Reconsider Baby," all of Elvis' most important tracks are on this well-chosen set. Those who know the myths and legends more than the music would do well to start here and learn just why Elvis Presley is now and forever the King of Rock & Roll.

You cannot cram every essential Elvis recording onto just 2 You cannot limit an "essential" Elvis album to just 2 cd's without leaving off buckets of songs that smany will feel should be included. Having said that this album represents a reasonable cross section sample. If you are a casual fan then this album is good value and will give you a good flavour of the man's talents. But it is just a taster.... Submitted by joemin (ireland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

The Best The sound quality is probably what distinguishes this release from other Elvis collections. It really is superb.
Also, check out the track-list, its great; far more than just a hits collection
I would recommend this release to anyone. Its fantastic music. Submitted by Steve (Chicago Ill) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
There's Better Out There The music on this two-disc set is quite good, but if what you want is two discs of the best Elvis, there's a collection called "The Top Ten Hits" which has all 38 of them, with none of the lesser hits, also-rans and filler this collection has. Why they didn't just take that set and add another fifteen songs to it is anybody's guess. Unless you want a solid Elvis starter collection and specifically want one or more of the "other" songs that are on this set, go for "The Top Ten Hits". Essential Elvis Presley album
$10.39 Recorded between 1964 & 1981. Includes liner notes by Brian Chin.
Though not as critically revered as label-mates Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder, the Supremes were the most popular Motown act of the 1960s. Not only did the group rack up a string of #1 singles, that, in terms of frequency and quality often rivaled that of the Beatles, they were one of the first black combos in America to truly achieve mainstream white acceptance.
In many ways, the Supremes' music represented the Motown sound distilled to its essence; Hitsville USA's throbbing bass, relentlessly danceable drum beats, and ingenious arrangements were never so purely and perfectly geared for maximum pop appeal as on early hits such as "Where Did Our Love Go" and "Stop! In the Name of Love." On later, edgier tracks, like "You Keep ...
| | Carpenters Gold: Greatest Hits CDs (2000) Anniversary Edition
Essential Elvis Presley CD music
$16.49 Recorded between 1970 & 1997. Includes liner notes by Richard Carpenter.
Look no further for the definitive Carpenters collection; this two-disc, 40-song beauty tops them all. Not only do you get all of the band's hits (and they had many), but lots of equally great, lesser-known tracks sweeten the pot. Karen Carpenter's pure, gentle voice, and brother Richard's smooth-but-sophisticated arrangements and keyboards provided the signature sound of the soft-pop 1970s. You could put this collection into a time capsule for a hundred years and accurately inform subsequent generations of what AM radio sounded like in the '70s. This anthology is also a tribute the great talents of the Paul Williams/Roger Nichols songwriting team, from whose pens flowed "Rainy Days and Mondays," "We've Only Just Begun," "I Won't Last a Day Without You," and other mellow, tuneful gems--some of the classiest pure pop music of the era. Over the course ...

Essential Elvis Presley music CDs

Although America wasn't the first to catch on to the Beatles, it certainly gave the Fabs a worldwide stage from which to launch their pop music invasion. During the space of 12 months in 1964, Capitol released four Beatles LPs that reshuffled various British Parlophone LPs, EPs, and singles. The result of this rejiggering was four unique titles that, along with those famed Ed Sullivan performances, were the introduction to this global phenomenon for millions in the United States. For the 40th anniversary of these releases, this 2004 set represents the first time these titles were ever available on CD, and features both mono and stereo (or "duophonic") versions of all the songs.

| | Essential Roy Orbison CDs (2006) Remastered
Essential Elvis Presley songs
$15.95 Roy Orbison has been in such need of a comprehensive, career-spanning compilation like Legacy's 2006 double-disc The Essential Roy Orbison that it's especially frustrating that it falls short of the mark. Not counting Bear Family's exhaustive 2001 set, which gathered everything Roy recorded between 1955 and 1965, including alternate takes, it is the first multi-disc Orbison compilation since 1988's four-disc box The Legendary Roy Orbison, which was released in the midst of his remarkable comeback that peaked the following year with the posthumous comeback Mystery Girl, which arrived too late to be part of Legendary. So, Orbison's catalog truly was missing a set that spanned from "Ooby Dooby," his first hit for Sun in 1956, all the way to his last charting single, 1992's "I Drove All Night." Essential attempts to do that, touching on every phase of his career -- the early rockabilly for Sun in the '50s, his cinematic hits for Monument in the early '60s, the cult classics for MGM in the late '60s, his '80s comeback -- over the course of 40 tracks. It gets a lot right, particularly on the first disc, which has most of the ...

$20.85 Martin's relationship to the band gives him a unique perspective (not to mention access to a vast catalogue of multi-track tapes), which results in a shape-shifting overview that encompasses demo recordings, instrumental passages, and snippets from some of the best-loved Beatles tunes.
