| | Halford III: Winter Songs CD (2009) Special Edition; Digipak
Did Tomorrow Come CD music
$13.75 At first glance, Halford's entry into the crowded holiday market looks like a parody. Heavy metal and Christmas make for strange bedfellows, and WINTER SONGS' pastoral cover art -- which depicts Rob Halford staring wistfully (with a goatee and shades) into a soft, snowy pine forest -- screams Spinal Tap. That said, the Judas Priest frontman approaches yuletide standards like "We Three Kings" and "What Child Is This?" with the same conviction that he applied to Priest classics like "Electric Eye" and "Freewheel Burning" -- it probably helps that most traditional Christmas hymns tend to fall into the same brooding minor keys that serve as the foundation for most, if not all, heavy metal songs. While WINTER SONGS, like Twisted Sister's excellent 2006 TWISTED CHRISTMAS collection, may not be mainstream enough for the department store Santa kiosk, it's a surprisingly cohesive and listenable addition to the genre -- and if skillfully disguised in a Mannheim Steamroller jewel case, it could make Christmas morning truly joyful.

| | Rockstar Rock Star CD (2001) Original Soundtrack
Did Tomorrow Come music CDs
$9.99 The most booty-kickin' spoof Metal group to come down the pike since Spinal Tap is Steel Dragon, the Mark Wahlberg-fronted hair band in the film ROCK STAR. Along with other '80s metal tracks and modern tunes, this soundtrack makes for a great listen.
ROCK STAR is based on Tim "Ripper" Owens, who left his Judas Priest cover band to join the real thing. The cover band in the film is Blood Pollution, who give us the catchy, hard-rocking "Wasted Generation." Steel Dragon does a full-throttle cover of Rainbow's "Long Live Rock And Roll" that retains the spirit of the original. Steel Dragon's original tunes such as "Livin' the Life" and "Stand Up" are straight out of 1987, with the screaming ...

| | Breaking Benjamin We Are Not Alone CD (2004)
Did Tomorrow Come album
$10.45 When Aaron Fink and Markus James left Universal Records act Lifer to join the then-unsigned Breaking Benjamin, many hard-rock fans were skeptical. WE ARE NOT ALONE, the latter band's sophomore effort, promises to silence the naysayers for good. Led by powerful vocalist Ben Burnley, Breaking Benjamin delivers a snap-tight, streamlined brand of heavy alternative rock with occasional detours into the rhythmic funk-metal territory inhabited by Limp Bizkit and Korn.
With strong melodies reminiscent of Staind or Incubus at their ...
| | Scorpions Tokyo Tapes [hip-O) CD (1978) Remastered
Did Tomorrow Come CD music
$11.99 If you played in a hard rock band during the '70s, what were you likely to be doing circa 1978? Why, recording a live album, of course. Preferably a double vinyl set, and in Japan to boot. The Scorpions were no exception, and in fact, their Tokyo Tapes were captured only days after Cheap Trick's At Budokan in April 1978. Though hardly as inspired or successful, the Tokyo Tapes set still serves as an ideal greatest-hits collection of the Scorpions' first decade. This recording also showcases the spectacular playing (and occasionally, the dreadful singing) of guitarist Uli Jon Roth, who would soon leave the band for a misguided solo career, but displays some jaw-dropping technique here, most notably on the epic "We'll Burn the Sky." The rest of the band also puts in competent performances on such early standards as "In Trance," "Fly to the Rainbow," and "Speedy's Coming." The material on disc one is consistently strong, and though ...

Did Tomorrow Come songs
$9.15 Produced by A Tribe Called Quest, the soundtrack for Spike Lee's 1994 ode to the borough of his childhood is one of the most evocative in existence (and one of the more delightfully diverse soul collections to boot). The album is bookended by excellent and incongruent original tracks, opening with the title track, a stark rap single by the Crooklyn Dodgers, a supergroup consisting of Special Ed, Masta Ace, and ...

Did Tomorrow Come CD music
$6.39 Robbers on High Street deliver a crunchy set of genuine rock & roll spirit on their debut EP, Fine Lines. The New York foursome refrain from going for that fashion-slick city sound made popular in the new millennium by the likes of the Strokes and Interpol. Honestly, Fine Lines is a solid record because the band is tight enough to pull it off without anything other than what they're offering: cinematic lyrics soaked in surefire guitar licks from frontman Ben Trokan and Steven Mercado. Bassist Jeremy Phillips and drummer Tomer Danan accentuate Fine Lines' elasticity, ...
