He Aloha
$10.85 This remastered version of LEGEND contains a 28 page booklet, and two bonus tracks.
Recorded between 1972 and 1981. Originally released on Island (90169).
Digitally remastered by Ted Jensen (2001, Sterling Sound, New York).
There are few musicians whose music has indisputably advanced humanity. Reggae figurehead Bob Marley--a songwriter, poet, activist, and visionary--is one of them. The idea that a single-disc collection could represent the depth, breadth, and power of Marley's achievement is far-fetched, but LEGEND makes an excellent attempt. Every single one of its tracks is outstanding, and the artist's different faces--revolutionary ("Get Up Stand Up"), romantic ("Is This Love"), devout Rastafarian ("Buffalo Soldier"), and prophet ("One Love/People Get Ready") are equally represented.
In addition to his moving message of love and unity, Marley is a master songwriter, as the timelessness of songs like "Stir It Up," "I Shot the Sheriff," and the gorgeous, poignant "Redemption Song" proves. Of course, a true sampling of Marley's output would require some early ska material, the Wailer's debut (CATCH A FIRE), the definitive NATTY DREAD, and his later-period opus EXODUS, but LEGEND provides a highly satisfying, if brief, overview of Marley's genius. | | Buena Vista Social Club CD (1997)
He Aloha
$15.05 BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Performance.
That Ry Cooder, you've got to keep an eye on him every minute, or he jumps into another cross-cultural collaboration. In the wake of his landmark recordings TALKING TIMBUKTU with Ali Farka Toure and A MEETING BY THE RIVER with V.M. Bhatt comes BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB, essentially a supergroup of traditional Cuban musicians with the addition of international agitator Cooder. Somehow, Cooder always finds just the right space to slide his sinuous slide guitar into, so that it works in almost any context. Here, amidst the multi-layered percussion, piano and Cuban guitar rhythms, Cooder's slide simultaneously finds a home and eggs the ensemble on. The natural beauty of the Cuban tonal and rhythmic palette is the real star of BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB, evoking both a sense of mystery and a feeling of intense emotional satisfaction.
Additional personnel includes: Juan ...

| | Afro Celt Sound System Volume 1 Sound Magic CD (2008)
He Aloha
$11.19 There may have been a time when the juxtaposition of Uilleann pipes and African drums would have seemed contrived or even cacophonous. However on this release the Afro Celt Sound System makes it seem as if it were inevitable.
With song titles such as "Inion," "Nil Cead Againn Dul," and ""Eistigh Liomsa Sealad," SOUND MAGIC, the band's debut album, arguably leans closer to its Celtic roots. However, a steady dance beat, electronic loops, and the presence of such performers as Kauwding Cissokho and Masamba Diop, both from Baaba Maal's band, mean that this is world music in the truest sense.
Recorded from 1995-96.
Afro Celt Sound System: Iarla O'Lionaird, Larla O Lionaird, Ayub Ogada, Zil (vocals); Simon Emmerson (guitar, drum, programming, keyboard programming); ...
