| Duets Music Review Average Rating: (3.7 out of 5 stars) Horray fopr Petula and Vicki Thank God we have singers like Petula and Vicki. I love them both and their releases are great. Keep releasing such superstars and less Britney etc Submitted by thom (london, uk) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
OK doable Love Petula hate some of the tracks. Who picks this, and why it it still happening. I can't wait until I finally her perform before she retires. Ok off to review the new box set Vikki Carr Ultimate Collection, that will have five stars the best tunes were picked as Vikki worked with EMI. Let's get Petula to do that for us! She is such a talent Hurry Sept 2007 for Pet's Seattle concert. Submitted by LeRoy (Seattle, Washington) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
NICE SELECTION BUT MISSING SOME KEY TRACKS I realize that putting together a Duets package on someone is difficult, especially where there is not much of studio recorded duets available. Varese's new PETULA CLARK DUETS features some studio and some TV soundtrack duets with some of the greats. However, clocking in at 54:15, two definite ommissions could have been included with time still left to spare.
One track features is the track LEAD ME ON, a single for Petula on Polydor in the UK in the 70s featuring French star, Sacha Distel. I'm extremely happy that this track has finally made CD, but what about the even better B-side called TAKIN' IT ON? Personal opinion would have flipped tracks and used TAKIN' as the A-side upon original release. A second Rod McKuen studio track called LAH-DEE-DAH could have rounded out the set, even if it offered Mr. McKuen two tracks over the other partners. It is a cute song, and hopefully will be included on a forthcoming album of McKuen songs Petula is doing, where this track could be a Bonus feature.
Petula gives her own take on each track with comments noted in the booklet, which is a nice touch. I'm not sure of who was responsible for final selection. However, other Petula projects, among other artists produced by Pierson have also lacked, so why should this one be any different.
The saving grace of this collection is a newly created duet between Petula and the late great Dusty Springfield mixed last year, with Dusty's portion coming from 1974. "Corner Of The Sky" from PIPPIN takes on a new light, and I'm glad this was able to happen. Submitted by Bill (Cranford, NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Duets album
$18.05 Growing up among Afro-Americans in Berkeley, CA, Greek-American Johnny Otis (born John Veliotes) always identified strongly with people of color. Before he had attained the age of 20 he was gigging with black jazz bands throughout the Southwest, and eventually organized an ensemble deliberately patterned after Count Basie's orchestra. This highly charged album of historical musical artifacts documents the very beginning of Johnny Otis' recording career. With one apparently unobtainable exception, the Classics Blues & Rhythm Series has assembled all of Otis' Excelsior recordings, made in Los Angeles between 1945 and 1947. This provides background and context for his more well-known Savoy material, and indeed for everything this amazing person accomplished during the second half of the 20th century. Otis' first act as a recording bandleader was to borrow Jimmy Rushing from Count Basie! Rushing sounds right at home with this group, which included tenor saxophonist Paul Quinichette, pianist Bill Doggett, and bassist Curtis Counce. During "Preston's Love Mansion," as Doggett quotes ...
| | Very Best Of The Eagles CDs (1994) Remastered; Digipak
Duets CD music
$20.25 THE VERY BEST OF includes a 46-page booklet with pictures and track information.
"Hole In The World" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
This 1994 greatest hits package (released in anticipation of the band's wildly successful reunion tour and album) supplants THEIR GREATEST HITS 1971-1975. It adds seven songs, but unfortunately deletes "Already Gone," one of their best rockers.
What's most interesting about THE VERY BEST OF THE EAGLES - apart from the presence of obviously classic songs like "Take It Easy" and "Hotel California" - is that it demonstrates that the band's esthetic was fully formed from day one. Despite the fact that the songs here span nearly a decade, listening to them back to back you could almost believe they were the product of one marathon recording session.
The Eagles' founders Don Henley and Glenn Frey were forthright in their desire to bring then-emerging country rock to new heights of commercial success. Formed in Los Angeles in 1971, they learned from their observations of the scene around them, and subsequently took their music to the top of the charts. They stayed there throughout the '70s, becoming synonymous with the sound of Southern California rock.
The band's first hit was ...

| | Jefferson Airplane Sweeping Up The Spotlight: Live At The Fillmore East 1969 CD (2007)
Duets CD music
$7.59 Jefferson Airplane were less focused in 1969 than they had been in the Summer of Love two years before. Recorded at the Fillmore East, these performances find the Airplane coming off their most recent album, Volunteers, released a month earlier, with the band a lot looser (drug use aside) and fractured. The factions in the group were presenting themselves during performances, and this set is no exception. Guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bassist Jack Cassidy connected and jammed like they would have been just as content without the vocals getting in the way, Grace Slick and Paul Kantner combined their voices and played off each other, while Marty Balin screamed and crammed lyrics together, leaving little space for anyone else. During this era, harmonizing seemed out of the question, especially when the older tracks, like "Plastic Fantastic ...
