Breach fits squarely within the parameters of the thriller score but manages to sidestep its most tired clichés -- Mychael Danna largely eschews de rigueur electronic rhythms and textures in favor of simple piano melodies, sinister strings, and atmospheric woodwinds that nevertheless convey the necessary tension. In fact, Danna's minimalist, Philip Glass-inspired approach derives suspense from the absence of familiar genre tropes -- its cerebral intensity keeps the listener off balance even once the unexpected becomes expected. ~ Jason Ankeny

$54.69 This limited edition of The Essential Kenny Loggins includes Loggins & Messina Classics.
Recorded between 1972 & 2000. Includes liner notes by David Wild.
Columbia/Legacy's 2001 release The Essential Kenny Loggins lives up to its billing, and not just because it has all of Loggins' solo hits. No, this collection earns its title because it contains no less than seven Kenny-fronted Loggins & Messina tracks, along with all his big solo hits, plus a sharp selection of album tracks and latter-day material, for a grand total of 35 tracks over two CDs. That's a lot of material, and many listeners may find that they are drawn to the first disc, which truly captures him in his prime by spanning from "Your Mama Don't Dance" to the era just before "Footloose." This is a compulsively listenable disc, from the sweet singer/songwriterisms of "Danny's Song" and "House at Pooh Corner" to the exquisitely crafted soft rock of "This Is It" and "Heart to Heart," two of the greatest singles of their kind. If the second disc isn't as good, it's largely because it's a mishmash of dated '80s productions and latter-career ...

$15.59 Charles O'Meara (formerly C.W. Vrtacek), lead guitarist and founder of the Forever Einstein trio, has carved out a strange little niche for himself over the past 20 years or so. Not just a rock, surf, folk, jazz or experimental guitarist, O'Meara is, instead, a bit of each. He doesn't blow the listener away with his power chords and/or dazzling fretwork (although he may well have the capability); he surprises and delights with his juxtapositions. He and bass/rhythm guitarist Kevin Gerety are also masters of the effects pedal, so the various stylistic jumps within songs are enhanced by changes from tremolo to fuzz, or wah-wah to reverb, and so on. An uncharitable critique of O'Meara's (and Forever Einstein's) music might utilize words like pastiche -- and that would be partially correct. Virtually everything that Forever Einstein plays sounds a little like something you've heard before -- a theme from a spaghetti western ...

$9.59 One of very few exceptional Power Metal bands to come out of Texas...SPITTIN JONAH was formed in the spring of 1997 when, through an advertisement on a referral board at a local music store..Billy Hagan Blax (bass and vocal) met Matt Eaton (guitar). Billy had worked briefly in another project with Mike Rich (drums) and thought he would fit in nicely. The first jamm (31 May 1997) was an instant success. Soon it became obvious to them all that Billy doing both vocals and bass was limiting his creativity. Billy says "We set out an advertisement for a bassist who was much the style of Steve Harris..and that's exactly what we got wasn't it? ha-ha". Enter James Young..a Geezer Butler/Steve Harris inspired bassist who is an Iron Maiden FREAK! I think he's even got 'Eddie' pajamas and Bruce Dickinson bed linens..ha-ha-ha-ha. After a year of live shows..James began to have problems with the tendons in his wrists..so upon completion of recording sessions for the LOUDER THAN HELL CD..he decided to take some time off and rest. With James on holiday for who knew how long...an old friend of Matt's..Billy Pixley..was asked to fill in for live shows until James could heal up and return. A year or so later..the band took a 'much needed' break for many months during late 2001/early 2002. Two years after his temporary departure, James has now returned. SPITTIN JONAH are aware that their 'White Metal' (Biblically ...
