Bottleneck Guitar Trends album
$15.99 Although his previous studio albums have rightly positioned him as the king of electric blues guitarists, Joe Bonamassa's gut-wrenching expressiveness and technical wizardry are best experienced live. This blistering two-disc concert set captures Bonamassa's ...
| | David Johansen Live It Up CD (1982)
Bottleneck Guitar Trends CD music
$10.95 1982's LIVE IT UP kick-started David Johansen's post-New York Dolls, pre-Buster Poindexter solo career after a number of solid but commercially unsuccessful records. A video of the opening medley of Animals songs--"We Gotta Get Out of This Place," "Don't Bring Me Down," and "It's My Life"--got huge MTV airplay, making LIVE IT UP a small but impressive success. Johansen probably could have built upon this achievement, had Blue Sky Records not folded shortly after the album's release.
Recorded at the legendary Paradise Theatre in Allston, Massachusetts in February 1982, LIVE IT UP mixes solo Johansen, classic New York Dolls (a smoking "Personality Crisis" closes the album), and delightfully trashy covers of "Build Me Up Buttercup," "Stranded in the Jungle," and "Reach Out, I'll Be There." The band is tight and economical, and Johansen is in total control of the ...

| | Albert Cummings Feel So Good CD (2008)
Bottleneck Guitar Trends CD music
$13.89 The endless boogie begun by John Lee Hooker, then Texas-honed by ZZ Top, continues, thanks to the younger generation of blues players such as Albert Cummings. This Massachusetts guitarist/singer is no purist, freely mixing nightclub blues with aspects of 1970s rock (Hendrix or Robin Trower), sometimes recalling the more boisterous side of the late Stevie Ray Vaughn. His guitar ...

| | Jonny Lang Turn Around CD (2006)
Bottleneck Guitar Trends CD music
$10.99 TURN AROUND is a wholly appropriate title for Jonny Lang's 2006 album, since it marks a significant change in direction as the young blues singer/guitarist's first full-fledged Christian outing. Having embraced spirituality after his hard-living days as a child prodigy performer, the North Dakota-raised Lang leans strongly toward soul and gospel on this record, as evidenced on the passionate "Anything's Possible," a lightly funky tune that finds his searing six-string lines matching his dynamic and expressive vocals. Along with writing assistance from CCM luminary Steven Curtis Chapman ("My Love Remains"), TURN AROUND also ...
