Martina McBride is one of the most reliable female performers in country music. Her bright, sunny twang-filled albums have been appearing on the charts since she first arrived on the scene in 1992. On her ninth studio album, WAKING UP LAUGHING, McBride continues to mine a slick, honky-tonk-tinged pop vibe that expertly splits the difference between commercial anthems ("How I Feel") and slightly tougher material ("Cry Cry [Til the Sun Shines]"). With her nearly flawless voice fully intact, McBride also co-produced and wrote several songs on the album--including the smash single "Anyway" and the harrowing, yet oddly sunny-sounding tale of hard times, "Beautiful Again"--making it perhaps the most personal album of her career.

This is a great exemple of modern country music, with a little bit pop music and folk. That's a perfect album with great songs. $10.55 The title A Hillbilly Tribute to AC/DC is bound to inspire some laughs -- after all, hillbilly music and the songs of Australia's most famous heavy metal band seem an unlikely combination. But when you think about it, the idea isn't so outrageous. Country was a major influence on early rock & rollers like Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley, and it's impossible to listen to country radio without hearing artists who have been greatly influenced by Linda Ronstadt, Lynyrd Skynyrd, or the Eagles.
