Timeless Jazz album
$9.75 Josh Thompson first received attention as the professional songwriter who penned the title track for Jason Michael Carroll's second album, Growing Up Is Getting Old, so it's not entirely a surprise that Thompson's 2010 debut, Way Out Here, is cut from the same nostalgic cloth as Growing Up, containing paeans to small towns ruled by John Wayne, Johnny Cash, and John Deere, and laying all blame at the feet of Waylon Jennings. Clearly, with all this ...

Timeless Jazz CD music
$9.79 This is an excellent session from guitarist Barney Kessel. Kessel is matched with vibraphonist Victor Feldman, pianist Hampton Hawes, bassist Leroy Vinnegar, and drummer Shelly Manne for a blues-with-a-bridge (the 11-minute "Let's Cook"), Vernon Duke's ballad "Time Remembered," and "Just in Time." The second half of ...

| | Tim Finn Say It Is So CD (2000)
Timeless Jazz songs
$14.55 On his fourth solo release, Tim Finn, the some-time Crowded House member (he sang/wrote on the band's WOODFACE album) and founding member of the '70s-'80s band Split Enz found himself recording in Nashville, recruiting producer Jay Joyce, who'd produced an album for Patty Griffin, and Wilco drummer Ken Coomer to help out. The resulting album sounds like it was made it Nashville by way of New Zealand.
While Finn is not as sentimental in his songwriting as his younger brother Neil, they're both gifted in creating clever, pretty pop songs that have won them fans worldwide. "The Death of a Popular Song" the single from the album, is an ironic, poppy tune; other noteworthy numbers include the pedal-steel number "Good Together," and "Underwater Mountain." SAY IT IS SO is an album that shows signs of Nashville without sacrificing Tim Finn's graceful, conversational singing style to the cry-in-your-beer twang of country music.
Say It Is So offers listeners the well-loved richness of Tim Finn's songs with a new found honesty and rawness.Wow. I am impressed by this. Nice songwriting and instrumentation. Quirky songs, and god, i love strings...

Timeless Jazz album
$12.59 This rare album from singer/pianist Tânia Maria, backed by bassist Hélio and drummer Boto, documents that in the mid-'70s, the swinging samba-jazz interpreter was already developed -- even if still closely emulating Elis Regina. The album opens with the heavy pounding of "Samba de Orly" (Vinícius de Moraes/Chico Buarque de Hollanda), and the same atmosphere follows with a Jorge Ben medley, giving room to the lyrical "Até Quem Sabe" (Lysias Enio/Joao Donato). "Abre Alas" traces very closely Elis Regina's take. Another Ben classic, "Fio Maravilha" (which was written in homage to the celebrated soccer player Fio, from Botafogo, who later sued Ben for using his name, which is the reason why this song is currently interpreted ...
