Que Gente, Averigua album
$17.19 Like their Malian peers, they favor hypnotic, single-note guitar runs with gutbucket vocals that double the guitar melody. Where they differ is in an improvisational group dynamic that adds elements of funk, rock, and a certain hallucinatory desert feel that seems less inspired by American blues forms and more an organic outpouring of pure inspiration, creating an utterly compelling, sui generis sound. On this 2007 release, their third album, these guys sing and play as if their lives depend on it.
Sub-Saharan guitar blues has taken a strong enough foothold in the world music scene to qualify as its own genre, with its own stars and aesthetics and, now, its own alternative offshoots like Tinariwen. Formed in the 1980s in Muammar Qaddafi's rebel training camps, ...

Que Gente, Averigua CD music
$14.39 The first album by Portland, Oregon's tongue in cheek lounge pop orchestra Pink Martini, SYMPATHIQUE, was originally released in 1997 on the band's own Heinz label. Although the album contains two originals by singer China Forbes and pianist Thomas Lauderdale, the title track and "Lullaby," the bulk of the album's 12 songs consists of new arrangements of loungy favorites like "Never On Sunday," "Que Sera Sera," "Brazil," and "Song of the Black Lizard," taken from the soundtrack of a Japanese cult film. Unlike contemporaries such as Combustible Edison, Pink Martini had the musical chops and heartfelt love of the style to keep the album from descending into snarky kitsch. In 2009, Heinz Records released the first ever vinyl edition of the album.

Que Gente, Averigua music CDs
$6.69 Kim Wilde's number one cover of the Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On" gave her a number one hit back in 1987, but she gained chart life five years earlier with the glitzy bounce of "Kids in America," allied with the new decade's keyboard-laden pop sound and peaking at number 25 on Billboard's Top 40. The Singles Collection 1981-1993 is easily the most opportune avenue available to investigate the rest of Wilde's material. While video may have been her best friend throughout her career, sporting her attractive looks and modest Brit attitude, Wilde's music does contain some pleasing dance hooks and catchy melodies. "Another Step (Closer to You)" and ...

$13.15 NOOK is a Brooklyn-based band that got it's name from playing their first show in a tiny record store. The members of the band were brought together through their mutual involvement in the New York City improvised music world. What began as a largely improvisational group has grown into a unique compositional approach that crosses genre barriers and incorporates the wide-ranging playing experience and musical interests in the band. NOOK's sound draws from the diverse musical landscape of New York City, especially the vibrant music scene in Brooklyn, and freely makes use of experimental/post-rock, free improvisation, Balkan folk music, atmospheric ambient noise, funk, and tightly structured composition. NOOK seeks to make creative and original music that is also accessible and fun and appeals to a non-jazz/experimental music audience. In 2007 NOOK was invited to perform at the Festival of New Trumpet Music, a festival ...
