Swedish punk band Union Carbide Productions fairly blew the world away with the authentic, towering Iggyisms of their first two late-1980s releases. On their third album, 1991's FROM INFLUENCE TO IGNORANCE, the Hoover guitars, bluesy rhythms, and swaggering vocals are still in effect, but complemented by piano, acoustic-guitar flourishes, and some power ballads. The ferocious grunge-blues epic "Coda" represents a new level of musicianship for the band, capping off what many fans believe to be the best of their four-album discography.
Union Carbide Productions: Ian Person (guitar); Patrik Caganis (balalaika); Ebbot Lundberg (Farfisa); Jan Skoglund (bass instrument); Henrik Rylander (drums).
Additional personnel: Bosse Soderstrom (sitar); Maria Stålhammer (viola); Bernt Andersson (harmonica); Castro (saxophone); Anders Carlsson (piano).

| | K D Lang Recollection CDs (2010)
From Influence To Ignorance CD music
$15.59 Since 2006's Reintarnation chronicled k.d. lang's alt-country beginnings, there was a need for a compilation that focused on her smoky prime, the recordings from Ingénue on, the recordings that turned her into a crossover star. Recollection, available as either a double-disc or a deluxe set that expands that pair with a disc of live recordings and a DVD of music videos, does just that, painting a portrait ...
| | Pink Funhouse CD (2008) Explicit
From Influence To Ignorance music CDs
$13.49 Pink's insistently hooky, attitude-filled pop-rock has kept the singer a fixture on the radio and on singles charts since the early 2000s. The artist's fifth effort, FUNHOUSE, doesn't tamper with the formula: Pink's powerhouse vocals and in-your-face approach, backed by stadium-sized production, are in full effect on all 12 tracks. Even though the album deals primarily with aftermath of her divorce and includes serious moments of self-confrontation like "Sober," fans needn't worry that Pink has lost any of her chutzpah.
If anything, there's an increased sense of confidence and newfound liberation on tracks like the chest-thumping "So What" and the mischievous, bouncing "Bad Influence." In softer moments, like the ballad "I Don't Believe You" and the soulful "One Wrong Foot," Pink channels her personal experience into expressions that ...

| | Front Range One Beautiful Day CD (1995)
From Influence To Ignorance music CDs
$12.49 Listen to Front Range's earlier albums, and it sounds like they're just dying to make an all-gospel record; on One Beautiful Day you can almost hear the joyful relief in their voices as they give in to the temptation. The majority of these songs were written by bandleader Bob Amos, and are of very high quality: his "I Am the Way" is a Christological barnburner, while "A Father's Prayer" is a sweet and gentle invocation of heavenly blessings on home and family. The band's version of the classic Ralph Stanley tune "Will He Wait a Little Longer?" lacks the vinegary mountain edge of the original, but lacks none of its energy; their rendition of Rick Lang's "Sing ...
| | Mick Turner Moth CD (2002)
From Influence To Ignorance songs
$16.29 On his third full-length solo offering -- plus a handful of EPs in collaboration with other artists -- Dirty Three guitarist Mick Turner has steeped himself more in the labyrinthine pool of shimmering musical mystery than ever before. Moth is a single piece divided into 19 sections. Turner plays all the instruments with the exception of piano -- courtesy of Michael Krassner -- and organ on one cut. That said, besides guitars and textures, there aren't that many more instruments. There are wispy layers of guitars backing crystalline minimal flourishes of one or two in the forefront, which come across as gorgeously melodic, almost songlike lines, though in truth they are phrases that surround a ghost melody, one that isn't actually ...

From Influence To Ignorance music CDs
$19.79 This Castle package features the best of Chicken Shack's Deram years, when they kept some of the trademark blues expression that made them somewhat popular in the British blues scene of the 1960s, while getting decidedly heavier to the point of being a power metal trio. The entire ...
