After a multi-platinum debut, Grammy nominations, a successful sophomore album, sold-out tours, and a collaboration with Jay-Z, the pressure was on for Linkin Park to deliver the goods with their 2007 release, MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT. Interestingly, ... Full Descriptionthe alternative metal outfit, best known for mixing rap, rock, and electronic touches, deviates from their aggressive, angst-filled sound on their third outing--opting instead to dabble in moody, atmospheric rock.
Opener "Wake" establishes the ethereal, synth-driven feel that characterizes much of the disc. Crunching electric guitars are few and far between, and most of the swirling, electronica-textured tracks weigh in at mid-to-downtempo. There are still moments of rock intensity, such as "Bleed It Out" (featuring one of rapper Mike Shinoda's few appearances), but the overall mood seems better suited to pensive bedsitting than a festival mosh pit. Co-producer Rick Rubin makes the dreamy soundscapes gleam, but longtime fans may miss the fist-pumping energy of early Linkin Park. Still, the new sonic palette of MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT shows a band willing to push past their own tried-and-true formulas.
Linkin Park: Chester Bennington, Dave Farrell , Rob Bourdon, Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Joe Hahn.

Rolling Stone (p.112) - Included in Rolling Stone's "50 Top Albums of the Year 2007" -- "[T]heir metallic crunch is as brutal and efficient as ever..." $12.69 "Crawling" won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.
Linkin Park's mixture of metal, industrial rock, and rap fits comfortably into the niche created by the likes of Kid Rock, Korn, and Limp Bizkit. The opening "Papercut" is every bit as angular and unavoidable as its title. "With You" opens with electronic squeaks and squiggles before leaping into a mix of heavy guitar riffs and hip-hop rhythms. "Crawling" bears ...

$13.49 "Session" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
In one of the most highly anticipated follow-ups of recent years, Linkin Park maintains its position at the top of the nu-metal heap with METEORA. The band labored carefully over their craft; for instance, the writing process of leadoff single "Somewhere I Belong" spawned 30 finished choruses before vocalists Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington arrived at the version found on the album. The combination of Shinoda's raps and Bennington's sing/scream vocals makes for an altogether complementary approach, best evidenced in "Faint" and "Easier To Run."
The pressure felt by Linkin Park to meet a high standard with their sophomore release even finds it's way into the lyrics of "Nobody's Listening," where self-doubt and fear are almost all-consuming. Producer Don Gilmore (Apex Theory, Blind Tribe) mans the boards with a decisive lean towards acoustic drums. That is not to say by any means that Linkin Park's inventive use of samples and turntables is any less present or crucial to the group's now-signature sound.

$15.35 Where CONTRABAND sounded, logically enough, like a mash-up of Stone Temple Pilots' alterna-rock angst and Guns N Roses' Rolling Stones-derived hard-rock swagger, LIBERTAD sounds much more like the work of a cohesive band with a singular vision. There are many elements of 1970s arena rock on LIBERTAD, not least in the respectful cover of the Electric Light Orchestra's "Can't Get It Out Of My Head," whose power-ballad charms are echoed in the originals "The Last Fight" and "Gravedancer." Elsewhere, speedy, punky ...

$15.35 ECHOES, SILENCE, PATIENCE & GRACE, the Foo Fighters' sixth effort, upholds the band's allegiance to melody-heavy post-grunge power pop driven by roaring guitars and Dave Grohl's fine songwriting. The Foos are aided by super-producer Gil Norton this time out (Norton also helped craft the group's second, and arguably best, album, THE COLOR AND THE SHAPE). The result ...

$15.29 The world at large got a fly-on-the-wall view of the creation of Metallica's 2003 album, ST. If that hoary old term "return to ...

Minutes To Midnight Music Review Average Rating: (3.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Biggest disappointment of 2007 I found myself skipping songs even before listening to them completely one time. Not a good sign. Way too many soft songs. What happened to the guitars? Too much clapping. I sold this on Ebay less than one week after buying it. Changes happens you know :) Hehe, well M2M is just a love or hate album.
If your a realy fan, you'l listen to it and maby give it another Chanse :)
Because like it or not, doe it doesen't realy sound like old LP, it's still a great album!
But, people doesen't like it simpley because it wasn't what they where expecting. But, changes are ghood, Chester Bennington said that he wasn't intressted in an Trology, like, the band meaned kidn of the same, they don't JUST wanna be Lnkin park as we know, they wanted to be more than just LP :)
Wich i understand, it's boaring if a band always plays same kind of songs, so sometimes it's good with a little change, but hey, not everything of the old nu-metal sound is gone, you got WHat I've Done, Bleed It Out, No More Sorrow and Given up :)
And that LP made SLOW songs.. the b-side of hybrid theory (My December) leaked out on the internet + came on the limited edition of hybrid theory, people realy liked it, IT'S GOOD WITH A CHANGE!
It's not good thinking "oh if it doesen't sound like before i don't like them" that's just stupid! you like a band or you don't like a band.
