Cambios album
$12.09 The very first moments of Rodrigo y Gabriela's sophomore effort, 11:11, hit the listener cold in the face, and not just because of the amazing guitar playing. Sure, it's there, but it's what anyone who heard the duo's astonishing debut would expect. No, it's the sound of the record: immediate, forceful, crystalline; ...
| | Joan Baez Gracias A La Vida CD (1974) Import
Cambios CD music
$13.95 This album is for those who both enjoy Joan Baez's smooth yet passionate singing, and appreciate the beauty of the accents and inflection of Spanish. Sung completely in the aforementioned Romance language, GRACIAS A LA VIDA is both traditional--no horn sections here--and decidedly exotic.
Baez's voice sound exquisite and natural; the album succeeds because of her sincere lyrical delivery and stunning elocution. Of particular note is her lush, memorable version of "Dida," featuring both the jazzy improvisations of singer Joni Mitchell, and the man said to be the most recorded guitarist ever, Tommy Tedesco. The soft rumba feel of "Llego Con Tres Heridas" provides a subtle finale to this foray into Spanish music.
The title translates as "Here's To Life" and the song it comes from was written by famed Chilean songwriter Violeta Parra. This album includes songs from the Chilean "New Song" movement of the 1970's (when it was recorded) as well as traditional Mexican ballads. It is also ...
| | Ricardo Arjona 5to Piso CD (2008)
Cambios music CDs
$13.29 Singer-songwriter Ricardo Arjona has been recognized as one of the more distinctive voice in the Latin pop scene (he won a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album in 2006, and 2007's QUIEN DIJO AYER was nominated for a Latin Grammy). QUINTO PISO, released in 2008, demonstrates the continued evolution of Arjona's personal voice. While his arrangements sometimes resemble those of mainstream Latin pop releases, Arjona's themes ...

| | Brian Jonestown Massacre Take It From The Man! CD (1996)
Cambios songs
$9.95 The Brian Jonestown Massacre's obsession with the Rolling Stones continues unabated on the brilliant Take It From the Man!; where the group resurrected psychedelic-era excesses on the previous Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request, here they jump further back in time to the Stones' mid-'60s period, with even more superlative results. From the opening "Vacuum Boots" onward, Take It From the Man! is gritty, swaggering R&B-influenced rock, delivered with remarkable assurance and attitude; singer Anton Newcombe is half madman and half shaman, and he commands each delirious moment with absolute mastery, emerging not so much a disciple of Mick Jagger but as a serious threat ...
| | Jetboy Make Some More Noise CD (1999)
Cambios album
$13.15 Although it doesn't include very many tracks from Jetboy's debut album (1988's Feel the Shake), the 1999 compilation Make Some More Noise does succeed in providing a taster of everyone's favorite '80s Mohawked glam metal band. If you're looking for glam metal with a punk edge -- in the vein of Hanoi Rocks and Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide-era Guns N' Roses -- then Make Some More Noise may provide a solid introduction to one of your new favorite bands. In fact, the chorus (and title) of the track "Suicide Shakedown" sounds very similar to what Scott Weiland might have penned for Velvet Revolver. Elsewhere, however, there are tracks that sound like your run-of-the-mill glam rock of the era, namely "Crank It Up." But give Jetboy some credit -- while most glam bands of the era were quick to list Aerosmith as a chief influence, few ever actually touched upon Tyler and Perry's blues fixation, which Jetboy do here on "Let It Slide." If you're not up for trying to track down Jetboy's out of print first few releases, then Make Some More Noise ...
