Where CONTRABAND sounded, logically enough, like a mash-up of Stone Temple Pilots' alterna-rock angst and Guns N Roses' Rolling Stones-derived hard-rock swagger, LIBERTAD sounds much more like the work of a cohesive band with a singular vision. There are many elements of 1970s arena rock on LIBERTAD, not least in the respectful cover of the Electric Light Orchestra's "Can't Get It Out Of My Head," whose power-ballad charms are echoed in the originals "The Last Fight" and "Gravedancer." Elsewhere, speedy, punky tracks like "She Builds Quick Machines" and "Let It Roll" underscore McKagan and Weiland's roots in the Seattle underground of the 1980s prior to their later mainstream success. "Get Out the Door" showcase's Slash's still considerable chops.

Given the dismal track record of supergroups in general and the well-known personal difficulties of Velvet Revolver's frontman in particular, many listeners assumed that 2004's CONTRABAND would be a one-off experiment. However, the album was commercially and artistically successful enough that the core trio of Scott Weiland, Slash, and Duff McKagan stuck together to create the even better follow-up, LIBERTAD.

4 stars great 2nd album from velvet revolver!!!
velvet rovolver,s Libertad, is in my opinion the best hard rock album release of 2007! like other reviewers have stated it,s better than their first album,contraband.for me the high lights are, get out the door,let it roll,last fight,she builds quick machines and gravedancer!! I just can,t think of any better hard rock releases for 2007 than this one!!get it rock on turn it up loud!! p.s. 1st album contraband is good also!

scott weiland and slash have done it again in this sophmore album. even the softer songs are good like cant get you out of my head or gravedancer. best song - get out the door or spay

WoW is all i can say these guys are so amazing, what a combo Slash and the gang and THE man Scotty Weiland my opinion better then G n R!! best cd i heard in years alotta years!!

5 stars An All Around Excellent Sophmore Effort!
Velvet Revolver's second cd release titled "Libertad" proves the band is here to stay. Much better in my opinion than their debut, "Libertad" has a number of good all around rockers like "Let It Roll", "Mary Mary", "She Builds Quick Machines", and "American Man". Heck even their cover of ELO's "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" is dang good. Considering the music industry is putting out mostly the latest & greatest crap these days, this cd is a breathe of fresh air.
