Purchase Live In New York CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Ted Brown Free Spirit CD (1989)
Live In New York album
$14.55 A veteran tenor saxophonist who gained early recognition for his work with the Lennie Tristano school, Ted Brown has remained fairly obscure despite his consistent creativity. This superior trio set with the great bebop pianist Hod O'Brien and bassist Jacques Schols, features Brown at the top of his form. Other than his own "Smog Eyes" and the lesser-known "Trane's Slo Blues," all of the tunes are familiar bebop standards, but Brown, O'Brien, and Schols uplift and infuse them with fresh ideas. Among the more memorable selections are "Trane's Slo Blues," "Lester Leaps In" and "Lover Come Back to Me." Quite possibly this is the definitive Ted Brown set to acquire; certainly it is highly recommended to lovers of straight-ahead jazz. ~ Scott Yanow

| | Linda Ronstadt Hummin' To Myself CD (2004)
Live In New York CD music
$14.39 Successful careers that stretch over multiple decades are hardly accidents. For interpretive singers, the keys are juggling genres, selecting appropriate material, and working with compassionate collaborators. Linda Ronstadt, who scored her first hit in 1968, gets high marks in all these categories, and 2004's HUMMIN' TO MYSELF, an album of standards, is no exception. On the gentle swing of "Blue Prelude," the brassy declarations of "Never Will I Marry," and the tongue-in-cheek pathos of "Miss Otis Regrets," Ronstadt's warm, familiar alto fronts a top-shelf small jazz combo. Notable contributors along the way include tenor saxophonist David "Fathead" Newman, pianist Warren Bernhardt, and drummer Peter Erskine. Alan Broadbent's arrangements ...

Live In New York album
$14.49 After an extended layoff from studio recording, trumpeter Jon Faddis returns with Teranga. Often driven by thick, acoustic basslines via Kiyoshi Kitagawa, Faddis' compositions are lush, visceral, and funky pieces that reveal the often flashy ...

$14.49 Carla Ann Harris has been performing in the New York area for over a decade in club appearances, off-off broadway plays, fundraisers and in the last 10 years as a memeber and soloist in the popular St. Charles Gospelite choir in Harlem. She was inspired to record her first CD, Carla's First Christmas, after a standing room only performance in August 1999 in the music series, "Notorious Nights" sponsored by Bad Boy Sean "Puffy" Combs' Notorious Magazine. An accomplished investment banker, Ms. Harris is also an active member of her community serving on several non-profit boards and a graduate of Harvard University and Harvard Business School. Following her successful debut album, Carla's First Christmas, this sophomore project from Carla Ann Harris is a soul stirring, redemptive, hallelujah, "feel good" gospel album which is sure to leave you with the message that "Joy is Waiting" on the other side of any challenge that you are facing. The CD presents ...
