(6 Customer Reviews)
On his second studio album, RELENTLESS, Georgia-born performer Jason Aldean doles out a lively set of restless country tunes. Admittedly a fan of hard-rock acts such as Guns N' Roses, the young singer isn't afraid to feature prominent drums and amped-up guitars, as best revealed on the rollicking hit single "Johnny Cash," which sounds more like Big & Rich than the late Man in Black--not a coincidence, since the former act's John Rich co-penned the tune. Even the gentler numbers on RELENTLESS bristle with energy, as on the lovelorn "Who's Kissing You Tonight," reinforcing Aldean's reputation as a harder-edged country star on the rise. Relentless album
$10.05 Jason Aldean has been slugging it out as a professional singer since high school, and the confidence gleaned from years of experience shines though on his self-titled debut album, as he delivers a strong collection of blue collar-themed songs in a smooth, polished tenor. Lyrics about philosophical farmers ("Amarillo Sky"), small-town pride ("Hicktown"), and ...
| | Carrie Underwood Some Hearts CD (2005)
Relentless CD music
$9.59 Country purists may take offense at finding American Idol winner Carrie Underwood's debut album in the country section. An unabashedly manufactured commercial product, SOME HEARTS is the sound of mainstream country in the 2000s heavily steeped in glossy pop. There's nothing downhome or roots-conscious about Underwood's voice or looks: she's the pretty blonde next door with a fine singing voice, but the powers that be have made her a country artist, and that's what the public gets.
None of this is to say that SOME HEARTS is not a good pop album. The combination of Underwood's considerable gift and the slick, spot-on production of Dan Huff and Mark Bright makes for a fine package. Even on somewhat by-the-numbers tunes (like her smash hit "Inside Your Heaven"), Underwood sings with conviction, and she does well with both the ballads and the uptempo tracks. Idol viewers and fans of artists like Faith Hill and Shania Twain will want to check this out.

| | Sugarland Enjoy The Ride CD (2006)
Relentless music CDs
$10.45 With the departure of founding member Kristen Hall, Sugarland slimmed down to a duo. Losing one-third of the formula that made their debut a country/pop crossover smash might seem a daunting proposition, but ENJOY THE RIDE finds remaining members Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush not only surviving but thriving. Nettles's brassy belting has more sass and sex appeal than ever, and the in-your-face attitude on many of the pair's songs is even more brash and boundary-pushing than the most full-throttle moments on 2004's TWICE ...
| | Tim Mcgraw Let It Go CD (2007)
Relentless songs
$16.05 On his first album in nearly three years, Tim McGraw delivers more of the rock-influenced country that has made him one of Nashville's biggest stars, but in a more reflective, at times almost somber, mood. The title track sets a tone of heartbreak and unspecified desperation that's amplified through the album's other 12 songs. Even the traditional duet with McGraw's wife, the eternally sunny Faith Hill, is darker than usual: "I Need You" flirts with themes of addiction and helplessness, as does the rock-edged ...
| | Miranda Lambert Crazy Ex-Girlfriend CD (2007)
Relentless album
$9.19 With her first hit single "Kerosene," Miranda Lambert introduced a wild-eyed country gal persona that suddenly made supposed bad girl Gretchen Wilson seem about as staid and conservative as Reba McEntire. Lambert's follow-up album, 2007's CRAZY EX GIRLFRIEND, maintains that image: In the title ...

| | Ray Luv Forever Hustlin' CD (1995)
Relentless music CDs
$7.59 In the tradition of classic Bay Area rap, following the lineage of artists such as the Mack, Mac Dre and Mac Mall, Ray Luv delivers funked-out "tales of triple beams and ice cream." With a lyrical style similar to that of 2Pac (during the late '80s the two emcees were in a group together called Strictly Dope), Ray Luv chronicles his participation in the game with a flare that's much respected throughout Northern Cali and beyond. With Khayree, ...

| | Cafe Arabia CD (2000)
Relentless music CDs
$8.79 Metro's world music compilations vary widely in quality. Some of them feature few or no original versions of the songs they collect, substituting cookie-cutter re-recordings that only give a feeling of what the music is like, instead of presenting the authentic music of the place the album supposedly celebrates. Café Arabia is one of the label's better collections, featuring original versions of songs by rai and Arabian pop artists including Cheikh Meftah, Cheb Khaled, and Cheikha Remitti. Not surprisingly, these acts provide some of the album's highlights, including Meftah's "Ainik," Khaled's "Chabrassi," and Remitti's ...
| | Grief Turbulent Times CD (2002)
Relentless songs
$10.69 TURBULENT TIMES is a compilation of songs available on vinyl only, as well as 2 previously unreleased tracks.
During Grief's ten-year existence, the influential doom metallers recorded several albums. But not every Grief recording came out on a full-length album -- in the '90s, Grief's work also came out on various 7" and 10" records (both singles and EPs). Although most labels quit releasing vinyl in the late '80s, there were some indies that, in the '90s, still enjoyed providing vinyl -- and Grief often recorded for those indies. Unfortunately, many of Grief's vinyl releases went out of print and became difficult to find; that's why Turbulent Times was desperately needed. This collection, which Southern Lord assembled in 2002, spans 1992-1998 and focuses on Grief's rarities. Most of the material originally came out on vinyl, including "Green Vegetable Matter," "Fucked Upstairs," and "My Dilemma." But two of the tracks are previously unreleased; alternate versions of "Depression" and "Earthworm" didn't come out on any of the records or CDs that Grief offered in the '90s. Because Turbulent Times covers a six-year period, anyone who hears this CD in its entirety will be exposed to different Grief lineups -- Grief had one ...
| | Alex Campbell At The Tivoli Gardens CD (2003) (Import) Denmark
Relentless album
$22.35 With the mid-'60s folk revival, the role of the musical interpreter took a back seat to the singer/songwriters inundating the scene, and as time edged on, the artists of performance were overshadowed by the artists of songcraft. It is for this reason that ...
