Maroon 5 have come a long way from the grunge-rock flavor of their tenure as Kara's Flower's (the band's first incarnation). The group still rocks when they want to, but IT WON'T BE SOON finds M5 emphasizing smoother, melodic fare with an R&B twist. Traces of Michael Jackson, Hall & Oates, Prince, and other mainstream soul-pop icons can be heard in the mix, but Maroon 5 gives their sound a distinctive stamp, melding electronic influences, hip-hop, balladry, rock, and keen pop sensibilities. The overall vibe is stylish and sexy, and the top-shelf production glitters, but it's the songwriting that takes center stage (just check the album's first single "Makes Me Wonder").
Thanks to steady touring and a debut album whose sales picked up at a steady clip after its release, Maroon 5 became one of the surprise break-out acts of the early 2000s. Expectations ran high for the band's sophomore release, and 2007's IT WON'T BE SOON BEFORE LONG delivers. Five years in the making, the album has the sound of a pop album that is well written and performed, painstakingly put together, and slickly and smartly produced.

Heard “Makes Me Wonder” but didn’t have to wonder whether or not to buy the album. Maroon 5 is smart, they know what works. This is truly a album that you can listen to and hear the excellence and talent that they have. I totally agree with Adam when he said that this album is better than the first. In so many ways they have strengthened their skills, but still retaining that classic Maroon 5 sound. This is a great add to your music library.

 Finally found their style...
Maroon 5 trully demonstrates that they have consolidated themselves as musicians on this record. All songs can be considered as a pure mixture between prince "pop style" and maroon 5. Forget about "Makes me wonder", just listen to the first track... the rest is a handfull experience of good pop - rock music.

I personally have never heard the band back in their Kara's Flowers days, but just by what songs I heard off of Songs About Jane and this album, I can only imagine just how different each of these albums are from each other, and how far they have come with their craft. Many people criticized Songs About Jane for pandering to the "indie music" mythos, which somehow skyrocketed it to popularity. When you listen to this record, however, there are no "indie music" moments. From the churning of "If I Never See Your Face Again" to the blistering "Little Of Your Time" to the radio-friendly "Won't Go Home Without You" to the melancholy plod of "Not Falling Apart", and more, all with powerful hooks and melodies, it becomes as consistent as Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album. This is not "indie" music, nor is it something the critics can easily bash, which is a double rarity in today's current musical climate. Each tune has good lyrics and good melodies, which should be played at dance parties all across the U.S., if not all over the world. If the music is that good, then why have people bashed them for it? It's because it isn't what the fans expected, and they take so long with their albums. It'll probably be another six or so years before the next one comes out. Until then, we can only imagine what they have in store for the record-buying public.

This is the best cd of 2007. Every song is great. I love little of your time, at your door, kiwi, and won't go home without you. The rest are great to. go pick this cd up asap.
