(30 Customer Reviews)
Rapper-turned-singer T-Pain occupies a genre all his own: "Hard & B" is how he describes it. On his sophomore album, EPIPHANY, the Tallahassee native follows the same formula that made his debut such a success--namely, shockingly hardcore lyrics normally reserved for the rap arena, cloaked in sweat and sensitive melodies. With a penchant for computerized vocal effects (much like his contemporary and label-boss Akon), T-Pain ups the ante on radio-friendly raunch with sexy club anthems like "Backseat Action," "69," and "Yo Stomach." EPIPHANY features guest appearances from Yung Joc, Akon, Cham, and J Lyric, among others, further solidifying his credibility within the world of hardcore hip-hop.
Second album features guest appearances by his mentor Akon as well as Yung Joc.Rolling Stone (p.103) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "The hooks come fast and loose....EPIPHANY should be lighting up both bedrooms and the clubs." Entertainment Weekly (p.80) - "[T]here's no denying the allure of his sinuous melodies." -- Grade: B+ The Wire (p.65) - "Pain's epiphany on EPIPHANY is probably that rapping still had his strengths....Pain exercises a lot of latitude..." Vibe (p.76) - "[A] superior effort....Like any modern machine, T-Pain takes what he wants, strips it down, and gives it the voice of computer love." | | R Kelly Double Up CD (2007)
Epiphany
$8.99 R. Kelly's appealing, staggeringly successful take on hip-hop-infused contemporary R&B has been founded in no small part on his ability to make explicitly sexual subject matter sound as smooth and seductive as an old-school overture from Al Green. DOUBLE UP (2007), Kelly's eighth studio release, finds him taking ever more risque lyrical chances. While tunes like "Double Up" and "Get Dirty" find him in familiar lascivious territory, Kelly also turns to extended metaphors to detail his desire, invoking animals ("The Zoo"), electronic equipment ("Remote Control"), and cosmography ("Sex Planet").
Kelly's topics can seem absurd when examined objectively, but it's hard to argue when the tracks sound so good. The production glimmers with help from top industry wizards like Kanye West, Just Blaze, Swizz Beats, and the Runners. Guest appearances from ...
| | T I T.I. vs. T.I.P. CD (2007)
Epiphany
$10.29 It seems like T.I. hasn't gotten any rest since he hit it big with his sophomore release--2003's TRAP MUZIK. With an impressive array of LPs, mixtapes, countless guest spots, and enough industry legwork on his Grand Hustle label in the meantime, the self-proclaimed "King of the South" has been steadily putting in work.
With the follow-up to his multi-platinum smash, KING, T.I. carries a concept, pitting one persona against the other on the fittingly titled, T.I. VS. T.I.P. Speaking alternately as the ...

After 30 years of work in social change movements, Near's historical perspective as well as her contemporary activism continue to challenge and inspire audiences around the country. The spectrum of her work is staggering. She presents an inspiring and entertaining keynote while her teaching is a mix of history, therapy, and investigation of craft. Her songwriting invites the listener to his/her best self and her singing voice is full of range and dynamics; indeed, her voice is stronger than it has ever been. She got a dynamic start in film and television in the early 1970s. But the world caught her attention, fueling her cultural and political perspective, and she began singing full time. Today, Holly calls herself "an elder in training". Experience has brought wisdom to her perspective and her singing has matured. In addition to solo concerts, collaborations and festival, her 2004 season includes conducting a three day master class at The Leaven Center in Michigan, delivering the keynote address for the American Family Therapy Association in San Francisco and the annual Ware Lecture for the Unitarian Universalist Association in Long Beach, California; participating in Healing Journeys: Cancer as a Turning Point™ in Seattle, Washington, and appearing at The HerbFest in Norway, Iowa. In the fall of 2003, Holly was invited to join Harry Belafonte, Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon and Pete Seeger at Ohio State University to discuss political song and how it has affected social change, public policy and responsible ...
