The project may seem odd at first: jazz and world music fusion covers of Rolling Stones songs? Yet saxophonist Tim Ries, a decade-long member of the Stones' touring band, fulfills his aim admirably. Gypsy music, gospel, African rhythms, flamenco, fado, Afro-Brazilian, salsa, and nearly every other music from around the world, are thrown in the blender for takes on "Jumpin' Jack Flash," "Brown Sugar," "You Can't Always Get What You Want," and other classics from the world's greatest rock-&-roll band. Mick Jagger never achieved much commercial success with his solo material (certainly nothing that touched the hem of his work with the Rolling Stones), but across four solo albums and a number of singles and outtakes he managed to put together a respectable body of work. That work is well selected and represented on 2007's THE VERY BEST OF MICK JAGGER, the singer's first solo collection.
In contrast to the Stones' gritty, blues-drenched rock, Jagger's solo work has always been unabashedly pop, and that tendency is evident on VERY BEST. From the disco-inflected "Just Another Night" to the bouncy call-to-arms "Let's Work" to his duet with David Bowie on "Dancing In the Streets," Jagger delivers polished products that are as edible as candy. In addition to his chart hits, the set features a few choice rarities, including 1970's "Memo to Turner," and a blues-drenched cover of Sonny Boy Williamson's "Checkin' Up On My Baby." A DVD featuring interviews, videos, and live performances, rounds out the package.

Violet Naytowhow Violet Naytowhow is a woodland Cree singer/songwriter based in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She has been writing songs, playing guitar, hand drum, rattle and singing - both as part of music festivals, cultural events, conferences, ceremonies and community and family events since she was a young child. She has also recorded and played with a wide variety of musicians (from Pepe Mendoza to Chester Knight) and is a musical role model throughout the northern Saskatchewan in many Aboriginal communities.
