Purchase Given You Nothing CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Silky Soul Music: An All-Star Tribute To Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly CD (2009)
Given You Nothing
$11.65 A San Francisco-based smooth R&B act with roots in Philadelphia soul, Maze (usually billed as Maze featuring Frankie Beverly) never managed to break with a larger mainstream audience during their late-`70s to early `80s peak, but nevertheless garnered a devoted following in urban radio as one of the progenitors of the romantic, understated style known as "quiet storm." And the group's jazz-funk sophistication can certainly be felt in contemporary R&B and neo-soul styles of the `90s and `00s, with some of their career highpoints ("Joy and Pain" and "Before I Let Go") being heavily ...

| | Tech N9ne K.O.D. CD (2009) Digipak
Given You Nothing
$15.65 As an acolyte of horrorcore, a rap micro genre adorned with grisly lyrics and macabre themes, Tech N9ne is one of the more controversial and misunderstood figures in hip-hop music. Coming off the heels of his second album of collaborations, the early 2009-release SICKOLOGY 101, the ever prolific Tech released a late-2009 solo effort entitled K.O.D., painting some of his most gruesome depictions ...
| | Michael Jackson Bad CD (1987) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Special Edition
Given You Nothing
$7.59 Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
Jackson's domination of the world record market continued following Thriller, although by comparison it was an almighty flop with only 12 million sales. As Pink Floyd and Dire Straits have proved, one album can go completely sales haywire without necessarily being any better. The title track and the gorgeous "Man In The Mirror" were substantial hits, but quality material such as "Dirty Diana" and "Liberian Girl" bolster a strong album. Jackson also seemed to have found the romance he seeks in "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" and "The Way You Make Me Feel." Regardless of his press, history clearly shows that he has made a lot of people very, very happy.
Additional Tracks
Recorded at Westlake Audio Studios, Los Angeles, California. Originally released on Epic (40600).
Personnel includes: Michael Jackson (vocals); Stevie Wonder (vocals, keyboards); The Winans (vocals); David Williams, Eric Gale, Steve Stevens, Bill Bottrell, Dann Huff, Michael Landau, Paul Jackson Jr. (guitar); Larry Williams (saxophone, ...

| | Notorious B I G Ready To Die CD (1994) With DVD; Reissue; Remastered
Given You Nothing
$12.65 Blowin' up the charts using his knowledge of the streets and hard bangin' snares provided by producer Easy Mo Bee, the Bedford-Stuyvesant native Notorious B.I.G. is far from "Ready To Die." Not since the likes of Slick Rick has there been an artist so successful in the storytelling genre of rap music, creating a mental picture of life in the heads of his listeners. The up-tempo "Gimme The Loot" illustrates the hustlin' ways of a trigger-happy robbery expert stressed from the "Everyday Struggle" of life. The recurrence of the Isley Brothers tune "Between The Sheets" adds to the charm of "Big Poppa," where Biggie portrays his "player" image. No need to skip any songs, READY TO DIE is packed with hits all the way through.
Once he stepped out onto the scene as the rapper on the remix of Mary J. Blige's hit single "Real Love," many hip-hop fanatics anxiously awaited the debut of The Notorious B.I.G. a.k.a. Biggie Smalls. Their prayers were answered with READY TO DIE, fifteen tracks of uncut, hard-core, lyrically sophisticated rap all complemented by hypnotic beats supplied by the underground's most prominent producers. READY TO DIE resumes where his "Juicy" single left off, but separates itself from the array of hip-hop albums that don't live up to the ...
| | Spirited Away CD (2002) Original Soundtrack
Given You Nothing
$15.89 Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi is best known for his Takeshi Kitano and Hazao Miyazaki scores -- and yet the two directors couldn't be more different. Kitano's films are mostly adult crime dramas, while Miyazaki's are mostly animated family features. But both are wildly adventurous and deeply (sometimes even secretly) romantic. Hisaishi has done excellent work for each, most notably Kitano's masterful Hana-Bi and Miyazaki's epic Princess Mononoke. If his soundtracks for Kitano tend to have a more elegant, elegiac tone (Kitano's taciturn protagonists often die at the end), his soundtracks for Miyazaki tend to be more sweeping and majestic (no matter what comes their way, Miyazaki's plucky young heroes and heroines always triumph at the end). Spirited Away fits the latter description to a T. As ...
