If the former members of Soundgarden wished to reunite without their original singer, Operator's Johnny Strong would likely top the list of potential candidates. At times, Strong delivers a vocal sound that is such a dead-ringer for Chris Cornell's singing style and tonality that an untrained ear would be seriously challenged to tell them apart. Joining Strong for SOULCRUSHER (the band's debut) is former Puddle Of Mudd guitarist Paul Phillips. The album grooves with emotionally driven, radio-friendly hard rock not unlike...er...Soundgarden.
Track 11 Includes Hidden Track "Burn Up The Road".

| | Michael Jackson Off The Wall CD (1979) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Special Edition
Soulcrusher
$5.49 OFF THE WALL remaster contains previously unreleased demos and commentary by producer Quincy Jones and songwriter Rod Temperton.
Recorded in Los Angeles, California between 1978 & 1979. Originally released on Epic (35745).
Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
As the lead singer of the Jackson 5, Michael Jackson had already been labeled a legend at a young age; but OFF THE WALL introduced the world to the adult Michael Jackson, and proved that he was still very much worthy of that label. It was the real beginning for Michael as a solo artist, and opened the doors for his next album THRILLER, which would become the greatest selling album of all time and help foist upon a Jackson a new title: King Of Pop.
Under the supervision of Quincy Jones, OFF THE WALL illustrated some of Jackson's most soulful material. The title-track is among the album's smoothest, and introduces his silky feel for the dance-floor. The lively "Working Day And Night" was a teaser for the singles "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Rock With You," both of which reached #1 on the pop charts. Slowing down the pace, the album also hosted some romantic tunes which, through the years, have become classics in their own right. With "Girlfriend" ...
| | Paul Butterfield Blues Band CD (1965)
Soulcrusher
$6.19 The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) heard this and had their lives changed forever. In fact, for at least a year after the album's release in 1965, it was impossible to walk down the hall of any college dorm in America without hearing one of the songs here echoing from somebody's room.
Heard today, the ...

| | What Time Is It? CD (1982)
Soulcrusher
$6.59 This album oozes attitude. From its opening "Wild And Loose," Morris never quits with his rantings ("Ain't nobody cool but me"). But his real talent, aside from his alleged sexual prowess, is his ability to get the most out of his band. What makes these grooves timeless are the immensely musical and tight players Mr. Day gathered. "777-9311," for instance, features some super cymbal work from Jellybean Johnson, and a frenzied guitar solo from Jesse Johnson. ...
| | Take Me To The River: A Southern Soul Story 1961-1977 CDs (2008)
Soulcrusher
$46.15 This three-disc set documenting the 1960s/'70s glory days of Southern soul is as impressive an anthology as one could want, balancing expertly between classic tunes by big-name artists and lost gems by cult favorites. Covering the soul scene as it developed in Muscle Shoals, Memphis, and elsewhere, TAKE ME TO THE RIVER moves from such iconic cuts as the Al Green title track and Aretha Franklin's "Do Right Woman Do Right Man" to milestones of a less ubiquitous nature (King Floyd's "Groove Me," Paul Kelly's "Stealing in the Name of the Lord") and obscure collectors-manna like The Masqueraders' "Let's Face Facts," carefully presenting as all-encompassing a portrait of this rich scene as even a three-disc limit will allow.
2008 three CD set, a selection of songs that tell the story of the golden era of Southern Soul 1961-77 with full notes and lavish illustrations in a 72 page full-colour book, in a deluxe slipcase containing a jewel case- sized hard cover book. Take Me To the River chronicles the story of Southern Soul, from its advent in 1961 to its apex in the early 1970s. Its track ...

$12.49 The News and Observer Raleigh ,NC April 19, 09 "GELB MAKES IT SWINGGig for gig, tenor saxophonist Gregg Gelb may have been the busiest jazz musician in central North Carolina for the last 20 years. As leader of the Gregg Gelb Swing Band, director of the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra, a founding member of the NC Jazz Repertory Orchestra, a jazz educator, and leader of numerous ad-hoc small groups, Gelb is, by example, an advocate for the music. With "Breakaway" (MG Records) , he cuts to the heart of his experience - a quartet blowing session with seven of his original compositions. Most of the tunes are singable, and Gelb offers warm-toned improvisation on each. His solos balance lyricism and fluid double -time passages. His rhythmic feeling is straight-ahead and swinging."Summer Haze,'" the lone clarinet performance, conjures up an exotic mood similar to Benny Carter's "Key Largo." "Big Change's Comin'" is the kind of swinging tune you can imagine the Count Basie Band playing. "Contemplation" is a fine ballad with sophisticated harmony.Gelb's rhythm - pianist Steve Anderson, bassist Steve Haines and drummer Ben Jensen - proves itself tasteful and artful, with Anderson uncorking several variegated solos along the way."Short Bio:GREGG GELB, tenor and alto saxophonist and clarinetist, composer and arranger, is a recipient of the Jazz Composers Fellowship Award from the North Carolina Arts Council. He is founder and director of the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Society, leader of the Gregg Gelb Swing Band, and co-founder and player with the North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra.
