On its fourth full-length studio album, WHO WE ARE, the Los Angeles-based pop/rock trio Lifehouse stays steady on its adult-alternative course, offering up a guitar-driven post-grunge set that is ready-made for radio play. While this 2007 outing isn't a major departure from past Lifehouse releases, it does rock a little harder than its eponymous predecessor, a point hit home by the brooding opener, "Disarray," and the driving title track. Those worried that the band is going for Nickelback-like heaviness, however, will be appeased by the celebratory lead single, "First Time," and the chiming "Mesmerized," tunes that reinforce frontman Jason Wade's status as a remarkably consistent songsmith.
Lifehouse: Jason Wade (guitar); Rick Woolstenhulme Jr. (drums); Bryce Soderberg (background vocals).
Additional personnel: Mark Goldenberg (guitar); Eric Gorfain, Daphne Chen (violin); Leah Katz (viola); Richard Dodd (cello); Rocco DeLuca and The Burden (organ); Pat Leonard (keyboards); Jude Cole (background vocals); Stephen Lu.

Just Like Coming Home Again I love all of Lifehouse's previous work including their DVD. This record is great for all the same reasons I liked their earlier songs; yet sounds so new and exciting. Beautiful guitar playing; and Justin's voice/lyrics are as remarkable as ever. And I still wonder how their sound can be so big with just three players(with the occasional guest). Always warm, endearing lyrics and lush arrangements that can melt away any sadness in the presence of the Lifehouse Phoenix. Or empower yourself to face any day life can bring because you know somebody cares.
Thanks again for the lift you guys!!!!!!!!!!! Submitted by ptsmithy (Moon/Waterbury,CT/USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Welcome Back, Gentlemen... you have been sorely missed. Lifehouse makes music that touches you and, in my opinion, that is in short supply these days. I got "Who We Are" yesterday and that is all I have been listening to since. "Broken" is touchingly beautiful. Buy it and be touched as well. Lifehouse is on the right track ! After reading the positive reviews on here for this album, I picked it up and I have to say, the first half of the is awesome, it takes me back to their "Stanley Climbfall" album with ultra catchy upbeat songs. HOWEVER, after the first half is over, the cd goes downhill and never comes back. All of the catchy choruses and lively songs disappear. It's a shame that it had to end like that.
Overall, it's definately better than the last 2 albums and the first half alone make this worth picking up. Submitted by Slick (Houghton, MI) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Who We Are album
$11.89 In the year 2000, you'd be well within your rights to assume there's little new ground to be broken by a guitar-bass-drums rock band. Admittedly, you'd probably be right; Lifehouse doesn't break any astonishing new ground or pioneer any new trends. That's not what this pop-rock trio is about. They're more concerning with crafting solid songs and ...

Who We Are CD music
$12.89 Billed as Collective Soul's first independent album since its debut, YOUTH arrived a full three years after the group's previous effort, the compilation 7EVEN YEAR ITCH. The hiatus (and greater creative control) seemed to put Ed Roland and company in a positive place, as the record is an undeniably poppy, ...

| | Matchbox Twenty Exile On Mainstream CD (2007)
Who We Are CD music
$15.85 The title of Matchbox Twenty's best-of collection, EXILE ON MAINSTREAM, seems to be an acknowledgement, ironic or not, of the band's entrenched status as kings of commercial pop-rock. As the 11 mega-hits compiled here prove, though, the band has a right to be proud. The disc plays like a trip down the main drag of radio-friendly alt rock in the 1990s, with such ubiquitous classics as "Push," "3 a.m.," and "Real World" included.
But the real treat is the EP that comes with the package. These six songs represent the first new Matchbox Twenty material in the five years since 2002's MORE THAN YOU THINK YOU ARE was released, and find the band more energized, focused, and compelling than at any point in their career. Produced by super-producer Steve ...
| | Diffuser Making The Grade CD (2003) Bonus Track; Japan
Who We Are music CDs
$30.95 New York post-punk band Diffuser's 2003 album MAKING THE GRADE features "Only In the Movies" and "Get It On."
Among its energetic bursts of poppy, punkish energy, Diffuser's 2001 effort, Injury Loves Melody, still clung to vestiges of the band's noisier indie rock past. It made for a more ambitious record, but one also fraught with continuity errors -- Diffuser couldn't decide whether they wanted to go all-out with the pop screech. If that was the case, then frontman Tomas Costanza has finally made the decision and taken the pop plunge. He's the sole songwriter for Making the Grade, and has turned in a completely unthreatening, tinfoil-and-plastic batch of songs about girls and sarcasm, all amped to 11 and akin to the outsized modern rock of types like Lit and Goldfinger. Actually, with perfect pop-punk anthems like "Here's to You" and "New High" rushing past in a blur of pep, catch phrases, and giddy power chords, it's tempting to compare Diffuser to the ready-made mall punk of youngsters like Simple Plan. But Costanza's a little older than those guys, even if he doesn't want to admit it, and that age buffer means his band's decidedly young-skewed music is trashy and immediate, but not simply opportunistic. It's blatantly a product of the now, but Diffuser seems committed to the material, and that's important. The highlight is the unstoppable "Get It On"; it's another ...
