Formed in Brisbane, Australia, in 2003 this London-based trio defies comparison and genre paths. Even if 'piano rock' was a term that brought dozens of bands to mind Helzuki are a band apart. When singer/songwriter Leah and bassist Matt moved to London in 2004 they set about getting their band together. By October 2005 they had found a new English drummer, Lex, and had decided on a band name: Helzuki. In an industry where true originality is gold dust and only the conveniently packaged and categorised succeed, Helzuki plough their own furrow. Leah (piano/vocals) comes from a classical background in piano and has never taken a singing lesson; which fits with her musical philosophy of combining the rough and the polished to create something inbetween via a blistering, intense live delivery. Musical influences are predominantly singer-songwriters of the grand scale but outside the mainstream: Bowie, Morrissey, Bjork, Elliot Smith & Tori Amos. Matt (bass) comes from a harder musical place, thus he's responsible for the driving, heavy but funk-laden bottom end that shapes the sound. He's inspired by creative bass players like Nick Oliveri & Scott Reeder (Kyuss), Billy Gould (FNM) and Stuart Zender (ex-Jamiroquai). As you'd expect, playing in a guitar-free band is a bassist's dream and he thrives on the challenge and space which sonically surrounds him. Lex (drums) is the newest member of the band; his style being a perfect dose of controlled aggression and white knuckle drumming. Heroes are Danny Carey (Tool) & Chad Smith (RHCP). His music taste is fiercely eclectic and he plays a bigger part in songwriting than most drummers would; Lex has been the missing link in the evolution of Helzuki. The live shows are where the pay-off comes: the stage personas are refreshingly simple, free of artifice and pretension, and the music more than speaks for itself. The band have played gigs all over London at venues like the Clapham Grand, Bull & Gate and The Purple Turtle and have recently recorded their debut, a 7 track mini-album, which is due for release as 2007 dawns. They've come a long way in the last year and whether it's as a result of praise from promoters, venues, other bands or new fans there's no doubt that Helzuki fill a gap in the overcrowded musical market that no other band does. Helzuki album
$19.10 Whereas Alice Cooper's first two studio albums, 1969's PRETTIES FOR YOU and 1970's EASY ACTION, tended more towards the trippy excesses of the hippie era, their next one, 1971's ...
| | Joe Walsh Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get CD (1973) Gold
Helzuki CD music
$19.10 "Rocky Mountain Way," the tune that opens Joe Walsh's sophomore release (and remains one of his best-known songs), is a textbook example of Walsh's strengths. The song is driven by a slinky hard rock groove that boasts crunchy, distorted guitars, barrelhouse piano, wiry solos, and a catchy, singalong chorus--proving Walsh's penchant for mixing ...
| | John Mayer Battle Studies CD (2009)
Helzuki music CDs
$12.95 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Retaining more than a modicum of the slick, soul-blues undertones of Continuum, Mayer fashions a modern groove album, a record that maintains a smooth seductive vibe so thoroughly it spills into a one-man band cover of "Crossroads." Mayer remains somewhat of a disciple of Slowhand, but he shows an unusual interest in the big AOR stylings of Journeyman, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan's In Step, creating a coolly clean blend of synths and Strats, one that's as much about texture as it is about song.something perfectly appropriate for a make-out album like this. Sometimes, Mayer dips too heavily toward the texture, but he can't resist a good, tight melody ...

Helzuki songs
$19.98 It's a commonly held opinion among fans and band alike that Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' lone live album, 1986's Pack Up the Plantation, didn't quite capture the group at its peak, so there has been a long-standing need for another live set, which 2009's Live Anthology ...

Helzuki CD music
$9.99 I AM. SASHA FIERCE represents another change of pace for Beyoncé. Unlike the relatively streamlined, retro-soul inflected B'DAY, I AM... is a sprawling two-disc set designed to reflect two conflicting sides of Beyoncé's musical personality. The first disc sports reflective, sometimes moody ballads, while the second, attributed to Beyoncé's brash alter ego, Sasha Fierce, is loaded with propulsive dance-floor fillers. Except for this stylistic ...

| | Players Band Halftime CD (2006)
Helzuki album
$10.25 The Players BandHalftime (Self-released)Can a reggae/ska band rock? On its third CD, The Players Band proves that it definitely can. An eight-piece, the group makes the most of a muscular horn section (featuring Nick Reider on trumpet, David Blackstone on trombone, and Michael Gorman on saxophone) that, like the Skatalites, punctuates its rock steady tunes with shots of bouncing, upbeat brass. Funky songs such as 'Joe's Song' show it can also cut deep grooves out of Joe Ross's nimble bass playing, Andy Schneider's drumming, and Dan Schneider's chicken-scratch guitar. In fact, Halftime exhibits a near-encyclopedic knowledge of classic soul that mixes nicely with its rocking take on reggae and ska.John Lewis, Baltimore Magazine. January 2006--'Your band freakin' rocks!' Joe Strummer. --"A rocking big band out of Baltimore and DC, the Players can hit all the styles and are a must-see live!" - AP Magazine (Alternative Press). --"The Players do the ska thing, and they do it well, with horn-heavy choruses and chicken-scratch guitar on exuberant tunes - Ain't no hatin' these Players. ' - Baltimore ...

| | David Fagin For Promotional Use Only CD (2007)
Helzuki music CDs
$17.69 David Fagin is the founder/gtrst/vocalist for indie icon's, The Rosenbergs.Search the Internet for info on The Rosenbergs and you'll come across hundreds of articles summarizing a history of bold career moves. One of which was teaming up with legendary progressive rock master, Robert Fripp. Through Fripp's UK based label, DGM, The Rosenbergs began paving the way for artists to begin partnering with labels, thus giving them a share in the ownership of their masters and better control of their financial futures. A few months later, while the rest of the music industry was waging war against Napster, The Rosenbergs, ahead of their time, took another controversial step by teaming with the infamous file-sharing service for tour sponsorship and a "buy one, get one free" promotion for their sophomore release Mission: You. David was one of the earliest outspoken supporters of file sharing because it represented the public's attitude toward corporations' monopolizing of the airwaves. Davids music can be heard on numerous television shows airing on FOX, CBS, NBC, WB, BRAVO, MTV, and ESPN. Odds are you've heard his ...
