| | Ledisi Lost & Found CD Ledisi Discography of CDs
(10 Customer Reviews)
New Orleans-born, California-bred singer Ledisi released a couple of indie albums leading up to her big-label debut with LOST & FOUND, and the latter is where the world at large meets a talent both highly individual and slyly syncretic. While Ledisi is ostensibly a modern R&B singer, whose tunes bear touches of hip-hop in their production, her background in everything from showtunes to symphony halls peeks through. The jazzy inflections, show-stopping delivery, and old-school soul that catch you by surprise are part and parcel of what makes LOST & FOUND stand out among the contemporary R&B pack.

Lost & Found album
$6.19 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux ...
| | Brian Mcknight Gemini CD (2005)
Lost & Found CD music
$10.65 On that latter track, the silken-voiced balladeer intones "it's hard to breathe without you, girl, and baby, that's a fact" with an earthen, vulnerable sincerity that typifies every McKnight composition. It's that mature connection to his songs that places McKnight in the category of the finest contemporary R&B crooners. He drives that point home on "Grown Man Business," as he touts the virtues of the reliable, refined man over the sweetest of soul beats. Brian McKnight has been turning heads since he was in his teens, and as a thirtysomething on GEMINI, he is at the top of his game.
Those born under Gemini, ...
| | Chrisette Michele I Am CD (2007)
Lost & Found music CDs
$7.79 Def Jam unveiled a stunning new talent in 2007 with I AM, the debut album from Chrisette Michelle. Though raised on gospel, Michelle's biggest influences are clearly old-school jazz divas in the vein of Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan, as their textured, bluesy phrasing can be heard informing her own delivery. Yet Michelle is decidedly contemporary, threading elements of contemporary R&B, hip-hop, pop, and adult-alternative into her unique brand of neo-soul. Help from artists like Babyface, John Legend, and will.i.am heighten the profile of an already mightily impressive debut.

| | Chaka Khan Funk This CD (2007)
Lost & Found songs
$12.09 Chaka Khan is no stranger to reinvention. Initially known as the singer for 1970s funkateers Rufus, she went on to become a solo star, and in the '80s she enjoyed a career resurgence via the hip-hop-inflected smash "I Feel For You." In the late '90s, there was yet another chapter to the Chaka story, with an album masterminded by Prince. FUNK THIS, her first album of original material since that Prince ...
| | Raheem Devaughn Love Behind The Melody CD (2008)
Lost & Found album
$19.79 Neo Soul crooner Raheem DeVaughn lists his home as "Loveland, United States" on his MySpace page, and there's little evidence on "The Love Behind the Melody" to suggest he would live anywhere else. With a light, airy voice that caresses the songs without rubbing them the wrong way, DeVaughn slinks his way through smooth, neo-classical jams as if he was born for it. "Mo Better" updates intimate '70s Philly soul with a string-dripping intro and brushes of keyboard, while "Women" sprinkles a slightly tougher beat onto the standby ode to the fairer sex. But while some of DeVaughn's contemporaries get low lyrically, he keeps it strictly class, focusing on woman's brains and strength. DeVaughn clearly paid attention to every soul disciple from Stevie to Luther to Prince, but he's got a silky voice all his own.
