Darryl Settles isn't your everyday restaurant owner. He not only owns Boston's oldest Black-owned, full service restaurant but he also founded the 'BeanTown Jazz Festival'. Darryl has long been in the forefront of the jazz and soul music scene here in Boston. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Bob's Southern Bistro (originally named Bob the Chef's), he serves up a musical collection that features several of Boston's finest jazz and soul artists! Craig A. Eleazer created the 2007 Bob's Southern Bistro Compilation for Darryl. The 2007 Bob's Southern Bistro Compilation CD is a smorgasbord of musical talent and great original music! The jazz side of the CD includes 'Everything's Gonna Be Alright,' a jazz rendition of the gospel classic performed by Elan Trotman and special guest Kirk Whalum. When listening remember that Elan is in your left ear and Kirk is in your right. ' Paulo Danay serves up a delicious Brazilian jazz piece called 'Ye Ye. ' Myanna always delivers a funky saxophone song and this one is called 'Intrepidation. ' Boston's favorite sons, The Boston Horns, have included the title track of their new CD called 'A Thousand Souls. ' The compilation includes two vocal, jazz songs. 'Spanish Rice And Beans' by The Nat Simpkins / Henri Smith Band features Charles Neville on saxophone and Henri's 'Lou Rawls-like' baritone voice. 'Love and Beauty' is a wonderful song that truly showcases the many facets of saxophonist/vocalist Stan Strickland. The CD ends with the explosive funk/fusion song by Belgian born drummer Zeke Martin and his band ZMQ called 'Blah Blah Blah. The soul side features some amazing vocalists! 'For My Lady' is the new track by Boston's most cherished singer, Ray Greene. Not to be outdone, Lori Dow checks in with 'I Wanna Know You Again', the song that made 2006 her most memorable year ever! Ashanti Munir's 'Black Pearl' is a tribute to the memory of Miss Shante Renee Jones who was murdered senselessly in Boston's Mattapan section. All the fans of James Aldridge in England will be treated to his new song called 'It's Not Always What You Dreamed Of. ' His smooth baritone voice still sounds as good as ever! Leon Beal, Jr. has a message for the youth of today worldwide in his track called 'Little Brother. ' Thought of by many as the best female singer in Boston, 'Fire Flies' is a rare single by the mighty Athene Wilson. Responsible for the successes of Lori Dow, Leon Beal, Jr. and himself, singer/songwriter Terry Gresham is present with the hypnotic 'Here I Am. While playing funk-rock saxophone in all of the "Pay-to-Play", "High Profile" venues of L.A.'s intense music scene, Chris and Chris decided to slow down, pick up a couple of acoustic guitars, and play some Cash, Willie, and Hank. This was soon after discovering they were both pretty much raised on the stuff, being born in Texas and Ohio. They figured if they were lucky they could hit up a corner bar for a few free beers and maybe pick up on some ladies by offering up a few of these childhood favorites. Dissatisfied with the country music scene in L.A., they invited some friends to join in, took the name Merchants of Moonshine, and took aim! The first gig was a true hole-in-the-wall, playing for about 20 friends. Four years, and approximately 500 gigs, later they have become southern California's premiere local country band. They have shared the stage with Rodney Crowell, Zac Brown Band, The Blasters, Trisha Yearwood, Hal Ketchum, Little Texas, Asleep at the Wheel, Clint Black, Junior Brown, Will Kimbrough, Bo Bice, Neal McCoy, and Phil Vasser.
